We want you to be part of this legacy and takeit forward.We are seeking a Horse Groom and Barn Worker to support the operations of Greenfield Village. In this position, you will be responsible for general barn chores and engage in our training program as an apprentice carriage driver to ensure you have the skills to be successful. As an apprentice carriage driver, you will learn basic horsemanship and equine handling skills, safety procedures, and protocols of the Agriculture and Equine Programs of Greenfield Village. The person in this role also presents relevant equine and historical information to enhance our guest experience.Essential ResponsibilitiesPerforms general horsemanship duties such as grooming, walking, harnessing, and saddling of horses.Completes basic barn chores of sweeping and cleaning maintaining the respectful appearance of all horse-related environments.Cleans tack and equipment used on horses and for horse tasks.Presents information to the public including, but not limited to, facts about the horses, carriage operations, William Ford Barn, and the Working Farms District of Greenfield Village.May be eligible to enter the Equine Driving Certification (E.D.C.) process, which includes, but is not limited to: equine driving, learning and presenting a narrated horse-drawn vehicle tour, and performing vehicle and equine safety procedures.Acts as a team player to better achieve the goals set for the equine program.Serves as a member of the Barn Team under the supervision of the Manager of Firestone Farm & Equine Operations and the Assistant Manager.Ensures the safety of visitors and staff through appropriate knowledge and action.Performs other duties as required to carry out all equine programming.Your QualificationsAt least sixteen (16) years of age.Weekday, weekend, evening, and holiday availability.Special SkillsExperience working with horses.Excellent customer service skills.Great team player.Able to learn and present a 40-minute narrated tour.Able to read, understand, and implement all information provided in the equine program instructional manuals.Physical RequirementsStanding and walking frequently.Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 50 lbs.Unless noted here, other physical requirements are minimal or not applicable.EnvironmentMust be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme and severe weather of all seasons.Must be able to work in barn conditions such as, but not limited to, dust, straw, hay, livestock urine, and fecal matter.It is the policy of The Henry Ford to prohibit discrimination in any employment, donor or volunteering opportunity (including but not limited to recruitment, hire, employment, program participation, promotion, salary, benefits, termination and all other terms and conditions of employment or service as a volunteer) based on race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity/expression, genetic information, pregnancy, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, age, physical/mental disability, marital/domestic partner status, military and veteran status, height, weight or any other such characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law.
