We stop at nothing because we're the kind of people who give everything.The PositionThe Hospital Services Specialist (HSS) is responsible for achieving or exceeding goals in organ and tissue donation at assigned hospitals in the Mid-America Transplant service area. This is achieved by developing relationships with key hospital partners and establishing effective hospital processes for donation. In addition, this role will serve as the clinical first responder and will dual-approach families for donation as needed.What You'll DoRelationship Management
  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with key professional contacts including front line staff, senior leaders, physicians, medical examiners, and county coroners to best facilitate organ and tissue donation.
  • Rounding per the Hospital Services process to broaden and strengthen support throughout the hospital. This may include off hours and weekend opportunities.
  • Collaborates with key hospital staff in formulation of action steps to increase donation through process improvement.
Recipient Advocacy
  • Respond onsite in real time to Organ Referrals and Donors and lead in overcoming any hospital barriers to donation such as, physician disagreement with approach process or concerns
  • Assess and determine donor suitability and manage the potential donor to maximize donation opportunities.
  • Perform chart review to determine donor eligibility to ensure optimal outcomes for the donor families and recipients. Will assess clinical situations, make appropriate decisions, collect, and organize donor information from hospital documentation and clinical staff.
  • As needed, dual-approach families offer them the opportunity of donation in collaboration with the Family Support Coordinator.
Education
  • Develop and facilitate education to increase knowledge of the donation process. This includes formal training such as Nursing and Physician orientation, in-services, and real time education during case activity.
  • Effectively communicate donation strategy with appropriate parties
Developing and Maintaining Processes
  • Develop and maintain effective donation processes at each assigned hospital to increase eye, tissue, and organ donation.
  • Collects, analyzes and reports data results to key hospital staff and Mid-America Transplant management at frequency outlined in Mid-America Transplant Hospital Services policies and procedures
  • Identifies hospital units or areas that represent high potential/low authorization rates and develop an action plan to address

Schedule
  • Saturday & Sunday 7:00am-7:00pm, and 1 12-hour shift during the week
