Salary: $16.00 - $19.45 HourlyLocation : Santa Barbara, CAJob Type: Hourly StaffJob Number: 02-2024-HW1Department: CounselingOpening Date: 02/07/2024Basic FunctionsThe SBCC Academic Counseling Center Counseling Assistant supports academic counselors with a variety of projects and is the first point of contact for students who come to the Academic Counseling Center Front Desk. Primary duties include:
- Helping students to schedule academic counseling appointments and prepare appropriately for their session(s)
- Supporting students in navigating the community college system, providing referrals as needed
- Assisting counselors with the facilitation of college support services including various workshops and programs, e.g. Class Planning for new students
Representative DutiesWork Schedule:
- This is an hourly position to work no more than 19.5 hours per week and no more than 175 days per fiscal year.
- The position is on campus in person during hours the Student Services building is open.
- Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
- Tuesdays 8:30 am - 6:00 pm
- Possibility of working some Fridays 9 am - 1 pm
- Opened until Filled
Education and ExperienceMinimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and written communication skills
- Able to work well independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Able to work confidently with diverse student populations and is committed to practicing and promoting inclusivity
- Experience with or demonstrated ability to learn new software and technology
Desired Qualifications:
- Ideal applicants are knowledgeable about SBCC Student Services
- Two years of previous customer service experience preferred
- Bilingual skills, Spanish preferred
