Major Responsibilities / Assists With / Risk ManagementPrimary responsibilities
Patrol campus buildings, including taking boiler readings, monitoring traffic and parking lots, preparing accurate/timely incident and accident reports, and responding to emergency calls via cell phone, walkie-talkie, and/or pagers. Alert appropriate staff or authorities in emergency safety or maintenance situations.Respond to emergency calls, participate in all emergency response protocols, and serve as a communication link to emergency response personnel.Remain alert and sensitive to emergency call situations. This requires an appropriate and immediate response to calls coming in through the emergency telephone system or the switchboard.Actively monitor the camera monitoring system at all district locations.Maintain a thorough working knowledge of the college's emergency response protocols and how to operate the emergency phone system, including internal/external call boxes, and the operation of the emergency public address system.Escort students, faculty, staff, and campus guests to vehicles if requested.Provide detailed written reports of work shift activities.Schedule/coordinate the use of the college's fleet vehicles.Service school vans (e.g., fuel vehicles, record mileage, check tires, clean windows, pick up trash, etc.). Perform similar maintenance on security vehicles.Operate the college switchboard per switchboard procedures outlined in the procedure manual.Respond to phone communications from Public Safety supervision when unexpected security needs arise.Public Safety Employees are required to report to work during periods when the campus has been closed for business and/or classes. It should be understood that Public Safety Employees may be required to remain on duty until properly relieved of such duties. Participate in ongoing training and professional development relevant to position responsibilities.Other duties as assigned. Coordinates:
Looking and unlocking doors on a regular schedule and as needs arise.Assist with:
Maintenance problems, snow removal, and shipping/receiving as needed.The movement of equipment and furniture as needed and facility setup for special functions.Compliance with the Campus Security Act and other relevant local, state, and federal laws and statutes.Assist with monitoring external door security and fire alarm systems. Report system failures to the Chief Safety Officer.Maintain an effective key control program and prepare related management reports.Comply with Order of Protection decrees from state and local agencies.Participate in the assessment of public safety at all college locations.Risk management and loss-prevention activities
Actively participate in activities supporting the college risk management program in a capacity appropriate to this position.Monitor conditions, events, and circumstances in the college operation to avoid potential torts or injuries to students, staff, or the general public, and then communicate observations to the appropriate supervisor and/or risk-management committee. A high school diploma or GED is required.Valid driver's license.Two years of security experience preferred.Working knowledge of computer systems and software, including word processing and spreadsheets.Good communication skills, both in person and over the phone.The ability to communicate successfully with clients of all ages, socio-economic status, sex, or race.Spanish or French proficiency preferred.
