Job SummaryThis position is ultimately in charge of hospital during non-administrative hours. Participates in the investigation and preparation of reports concerning incidents with employees, patients, and/or families (communicating information to the appropriate department), relative to the improvement of care and services, maintains regulatory standards, and safety training. Ensures appropriate staffing levels to maintain quality, patient care; and ensures that the needs of the patients are provided in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures; communicates at a high level with Administration, physicians, unit staff and other MGH personnel to ensure best practice for our customers. Ensures Nursing's mission, vision, values, and strategic and quality plan reflects the organization's current and anticipated strategic priorities. Consults with and advises the Chief Nursing Officer on problems relating to the day to day operations of the Nursing Department.Minimum Job Requirements
  • Graduate of accredited School of Nursing
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
  • Current, unencumbered Indiana Registered Nurse License.
  • Three (3) years nursing experience in a hospital or related setting and two (2) years in management.
  • CPR certification or must obtain at next available class upon hire.
Preferred Job Requirements
  • Certification in related field.
  • MSN degree. Will consider BS or MS in Management, Business, or Administration.
  • Unit Shift Manager or Relief Unit Shift Manager experience preferred
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
  • Knowledge of policies, governmental regulations and business practices pertinent to the department.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively and tactfully communicate with patients and their families and guests, co-workers, managers, Hospital Administrations, providers, consultants, business associates and regulatory agencies presenting a professional image as a representative of Marion General Hospital.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to carry out duties in a professional manner, as well as the ability to work well under stress.
  • Excellent time management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to problem solve, multi-task in a fast-paced setting and work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to negotiate effective working relationships and develop positive resolution to conflict.
  • Highly developed computer skills to include proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to department operations and job function.
  • Strong clinical skills to provide excellent and competent patient care based on identified needs and in cooperation with referring providers.
Working Conditions
  • Typical hospital clinical environment with frequent standing and walking.
  • Work subject to interruptions and occasional high stress levels.
  • Risk of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious, electrical and radiation hazards.
  • Ability to work hours beyond the normal work week.
  • Highly confidential information which may be proprietary or protected health information.
  • Ability to work hours significantly beyond the normal work week.
  • Attends special functions and meetings at various locations within the hospital and community.
  • Occasional overnight stays.
Physical and Mental Activities, Tools and Equipment
  • Uses computer and standard office equipment.
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling, walking sitting, reaching, bending, kneeling or stooping to perform duties in a safe manner.
