Strong candidates will be committed to integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) values into their work goals and will be evaluated on their impact.About the Job:The Housing Navigator is a key member of the Housing team, whose primary responsibilities are to identify housing opportunities to support families' successful transition from transitional housing to permanent housing in the community, and provide holistic coaching supports for families who have transitioned out of our housing programs. This role works collaboratively with the Housing team and external partners to achieve program goals. The Housing Navigator will champion all New Moms values including our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, in both strategic planning and performance. This position is located at our main office in the Austin neighborhood and spends extensive time in the community. Starting Salary Range: $48,000 - $51,000 DOQKey Job Responsibilities: Exit Planning for Transitional Housing Residents (50%)
- Provides all housing participants with access to quarterly workshops and resources to get on waitlists for permanent housing, including the State Referral Network
- Works with participants who are pre-screened and determined housing ready to develop exit plans by providing one-on-one coaching, referrals and concrete resources in the last 6-12months prior to exit
- Conducts research and understanding of industry trends and housing needs to adapt to changing markets
- Develops and implements engagement plan with housing providers including market rate landlords, permanent supportive housing and other subsidized housing programs housing that meet various needs including cold calls, follow-ups, site visits, in person meetings and email/mail communication with current and prospective housing providers; attends housing locator meetings
- Works collaboratively with the housing team staff to support exit planning that meet the needs of participants who are housing ready
- Acts as a liaison between landlords/ other providers and housing ready families to landlords and other financial supports needed for permanent housing including rent, utilities and furniture supports as needed and available
- Provide crisis intervention as needed with the goal of ensuring safety while collaborating with the participants program coach, supervisor and/or other appropriate supports
- Regular use of supportive coaching technologies includes but isn't limited to New Moms' app, survey platforms, and other digital tools, to enhance connection and communication with participants
- Performs written and electronic recordkeeping functions as required for both internal and external databases on a timely basis
- Actively participates in the housing on-call schedule
Exit Planning for Permanent Housing Residents (5%)
- Works collaboratively with the coach at Clare Place to support planned exits from permanent supportive housing to the community when assigned
Community-Based Coaching (40%)
- Provides twelve months of community-based coaching supports up to 20 housing graduates, with at minimum a monthly home visit and phone call that is focused on eviction prevention, goal tracking, community linkages and other supports to help ensure stability in the community and family well-being and meets Medicaid billing requirements
- Completes retention phone calls for up to 24 months post exit to permanent housing
Other (5%)
- Upholds the New Moms' Executive Skills Coaching approach which is grounded in racial equity
- Regularly participates in agency and program staff meetings, as well as professional group seminars or conferences to enhance professional knowledge and job skills;
- Supervises volunteers and/or interns, as determined by supervisor
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in counseling and guidance, rehabilitation counseling, social work, psychology, pastoral counseling, family therapy, children and families or related human service field; OR Bachelor's degree in another field with two (2) years of clinical experience in a mental health setting; OR H.S. Diploma or Equivalent with five (5) years of clinical experience in mental health or human services required
- Experience in housing and homeless youth services
- Broad knowledge of housing resources; experience working with landlords and housing residents with substantial barriers required; Expertise in an array of housing subsidy programs including public housing and low-income programs
Skills/Traits:
- Endorses a Housing First Philosophy
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and in writing
- Experience in the use of personal computers and Microsoft software applications
Other requirements:
- Valid driver's license, with safe driving record and valid insurance; Daily access to a reliable car required
- Ability to work evening and weekend hours
- Must have the ability to be on-call for a minimum of 1 week a month for after hours, weekends and holidays as part of a rotating on-call team for participant emergencies
