Job Summary

This is a dual position that will support two programs within the Prevention Services Department of the Y Social Impact Center: the Lifeline Pilot Program and the Youth Engagement Team in Pierce County.

The Lifeline program is a statewide pilot program, with a focus on Pierce County and Spokane County, that aims to provide support to individuals who are exiting or have exited public systems of care including foster care, the juvenile justice system, office of homeless youth prevention and protection shelter and housing programs, and inpatient behavioral health treatment. This program will require timely administrative support to provide an added layer of support with incoming applications, intake case management, resource navigation, and the provision of flexible funds.

The Youth Engagement Team- Pierce County (YET-PC) program is a multi-disciplinary team approach designed to address housing instability for unaccompanied youth 12-17 years old in Pierce County. The vision behind the work is creating a team centered, multi-disciplinary response to systems involved youth currently experiencing, or at imminent risk of; homelessness. There are three components to the model: Legal Advocacy, Housing Navigation and Emotional Support (Licensed Mental Health Counselor). Each of these plays a role in helping with the youths stabilization. This program will require hands on case management support to assist youth experiencing homelessness in accessing housing and other critical services to resolve their immediate housing crisis and address social and emotional and education needs when identified.

Work Location

This is statewide program that has a hybrid work model based out of both Pierce and King Counties.

Hiring Range: $24.00-$27.00/hour

Responsibilities:

Lifeline Pilot Intake Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Perform various administrative duties including maintaining data entry and database information, screening incoming applicants, producing reports and maintaining related directories and files.
  • Support full time intake specialist with monitoring and fielding incoming statewide inquiries via the program website, text, and call.
  • Provide administrative support to program and stay current with program changes.
  • Collaborate with program staff to develop, maintain, and be well-versed in a specialized Pierce County and statewide resource library.
  • Other duties as assigned.

YET-PC Case Manager Responsibilities:

  • Supports low-income youth who may have experience in foster care, homelessness, disconnection from school, juvenile justice and/or other systems in developing the skills to live independently.
  • Develops individualized, strengths-based, youth-driven service plans.
  • Supports participant success in key domains such as safe and stable housing, permanent connections to supportive adults, education and employment, health and well-being, and life skills.
  • Teach and coach life skills, job readiness and other subject matter individually and/or in groups, often experientially.
  • Develops strong collaborative community relationships and provides extensive information and referral services.
  • Research best practices in field; creates and maintains specialized resource library.
  • Teams effectively and collaboratively with YMCA staff and/or community partners to plan and facilitate activities, including visits to related resources in the community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Shared Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate effective time management skills.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with leadership.
  • Maintain clear, professional, timely participant contact notes, service plans, progress updates, outcomes, and other documentation in designated databases.
  • Provide specialized services to youth and young adults through resource navigation for support in education, employment/career development, housing, technology, or other designated fields and support them in achieving their goals.
  • Must understand contract/grant terms and conditions to ensure program outcome requirements are met and services rendered to young adults appropriately.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with funding liaisons, other service providers, businesses and/or educational institutions related to specialized services.
  • Participate in YMCA annual fundraising campaign to engage community members in volunteerism and philanthropic support for the Y mission.
  • Creates a welcoming and supportive environment at the YMCA.
  • May assist with program coordination or other activities related to job focus, as well as attend organizational, cross department and cross county meetings.

Code of Conduct for Applicants

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree* in psychology, social work or related social services field or equivalent experience, Masters preferred. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
  • Experience working with teens or young adults in employment, foster care, group care, housing, education, juvenile justice, anti-poverty, vocational support, mental health, chemical dependency and/or homelessness fields.
  • Ability to teach effective independence skills for a variety of learning styles and to plan supportive activities.
  • Strong youth engagement and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to transport self and client(s) in a safe and effective manner, and to meet clients at community locations; proof of adequate vehicle insurance coverage is required, or ability to travel to areas without public transportation.
  • Current state approved First Aid and CPR certification.**
  • Current approved HIV blood borne pathogens training.**
  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
