Housing Specialist Full Time Hourly Buffalo, NY, US 2 days ago Requisition ID: 1127 Salary Range: $19.00 To $19.00 Hourly Job Description: The Housing Coordinator is responsible for pre-arrival duties and housing needs for new refugees. This position works closely with resettlement, case managers and community outreach, ensuring timely, fluid communication with those involved in the housing process. The Housing Coordinator must exemplify Journey's End's core values in their work. These values include intercultural responsiveness, integrity, person-centered, empowerment, and exemplary service. Primary Responsibilities: Locate and secure appropriate housing for newly arriving refugees Lead/coordinate apartment setups with all program-required items and ensure supply checklist met Establish relationships with reputable landlords throughout WNY Comply with program requirements including case notes, check requests, inspections, and landlord statements Communicate with utility providers to activate utilities and ensure working appliances Mediate challenges between landlords and clients Advocate on behalf of clients Orient clients to tenants' rights/responsibilities and living in traditional US homes Attend community meetings regarding WNY housing issues Participate in JERS staff meetings and activities Other duties as assigned Qualifications: Valid driver's license, reliable access to a safe, insured vehicle, and clean driving record Ability to lift up to fifty pounds Ability to communicate with landlords in timely, professional, assertive manner Outgoing, friendly personality and effective communicator Highly organized and efficient Attention to detail and follow-through Proficient computer skills Self-directed and able to work in a team environment Some weekend hours required
