Req Id: 35184 Job Title: HPC Support Specialist City: West Lafayette Job Description: Job Summary The HPC Support Specialist is a fully competent and productive professional contributor who will contribute to the team and supports scientific research through the use of advanced computing technologies. This position will provide efficient and effective technical assistance and support to researchers utilizing advanced computing platforms located at Purdue University. You will troubleshoot High Performance Computing issues, applying systems analysis techniques and procedures, and consulting with users to determine their functional needs and to provide solutions in a timely manner. Collaborate with researchers to determine the most appropriate hardware, software or programming techniques required to most effectively complete their research. You will work collaboratively with other Research Computing staff to respond to the computing and data needs of campus researchers and national partners to support new advanced computing technologies. This position will be responsible for helping end users with account creation, resource access, and job scheduling. You will also assist with remote debugging and troubleshooting issues on the computing and data systems. Onboard and oversee the work of support students responsible for providing research computing support. What We're Looking For: Education and Experience Needed:
  • Bachelor's degree in science, IT, or related field
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in one of the following fields, or cumulatively in:
    • high-performance computing, coding, scripting, preferably in Python, C++, Fortran, or bash
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be accepted
Preferred:
  • At least two (2) years of total experience working with researchers or research groups
Skills Needed:
  • Ability to:
    • work positively in an inclusive and diverse environment
    • work under pressure and remain professional
    • diagnose and resolve basic technical issues
  • End user-oriented
  • Desire to learn new technology and techniques
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Linux operating system and version control software, i.e. GIT
