Reporting To: Chief Operating Officer

Compensation: $65,000 - $75,000 / year

DescriptionThe HR Generalist aids with and facilitates the human resource processes for all Manhattan Youth. This position will work closely with Manhattan Youth's COO on various projects ensuring our HR policies and practices are streamlined and in compliance with regulatory requirements. The HR Generalist will implement new hire orientation and administer employee benefits including employee health and welfare plans, and act as liaison between employees and insurance providers. This position resolves benefits-related problems and ensures effective use of plans and positive employee relations. The Human Resource Generalist makes certain plans are administered in accordance with federal and state regulations and that plan provisions are followed. This role provides administrative support to the human resource function, including record-keeping, file maintenance and HRIS entry.Key Responsibilities
  • Implements new hire orientation and ensures all the necessary and important HR forms and documentation are completed and collected such as I9 documents, wage forms, emergency contacts and other new hire forms;
  • Conduct benefits overview meetings (one on one as well as orientation) for new employees and information sessions for open enrollment;
  • Work with COO to create a new hire packet and update on quarterly basis;
  • Administer health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes and terminations. Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions;
  • Responsible for managing 403B retirement plan including enrollments, changes, terminations;
  • Process employment verifications, Department of Labor Unemployment queries, Paid Family Leave, disability requests and claims, Workman's Comp Claims, Insurance Claims, transportation reimbursements and other benefits;
  • Enter vacation time and benefits deductions into ADP;
  • Represent Manhattan Youth at Department of Labor hearings when necessary;
  • Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions;
  • Manages the HR inbox and escalates matters to the COO as necessary.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff;
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations;
  • Assists with processing of terminations ensuring all necessary off boarding steps and paperwork are completed;
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance;
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law;
  • Stay abreast of labor laws and ensure Manhattan Youth's Policies and Procedures are up to date;
  • Collaborate with Manhattan Youth's Recruitment, Onboarding and Compliance, and Payroll departments;
  • Makes photocopies; mails, scans and emails documents; and performs other clerical functions;
  • Files documents into appropriate employee files;
  • Assists or prepares correspondence as requested;
  • Provide reports to CEO, COO and Comptroller upon request;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned;
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • At least one year of human resource management experience preferred.
  • SHRM-CP a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software;
  • Experience with ADP Workforce;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Working understanding of human resource principles, practices and procedures;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate;
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality;
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
