Position Type: Athletics/ActivitiesDate Posted: 9/20/2024Location: Clatskanie Mid/High SchoolSoftball Varsity Head Coach- Spring 2025 Job Title: Certified Stipend Position - Head Coach Reports To: Building Administrator Classification: Certified FLSA Status: Exempt Bargaining Unit: CEA Stipend Depends on Experience: $4453-$6186GENERAL DUTIES Support the Clatskanie School District athletic objective, policy of interscholastic athletics, and Clatskanie School District Athletic Code. The District believes that extra-curricular activities are an integral part of school life. All students, regardless of their ability, should take part if possible to be able to grow physically, intellectually, and socially through participation. Coaches organize and conduct athletic programs to meet the needs of the school district and their participants. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in and/or knowledge of the sport, coaching techniques, and student supervision Coaching experience preferred. NFHS coach certification required according to OSAA rules Ability to effectively work and communicate in verbal and written modes with student/athletes, parents, assistant coaches, and other school staff Ability to perform coaching responsibilities in accordance with school and District procedures and policies Must have current CPR/First Aid certification Must have current OSAA required certifications and Training courses for Oregon High School Coaches Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or District patrons The ability to work harmoniously with others Successfully pass background checks ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES The Head Coach is expected to exhibit exceptional integrity and character at all times while employed by the Clatskanie School District Be a positive role model in the school and community Cultivate a program culture that demands respect between participants Actively recruit students within the school to participate in the program Collaborate with and follow direction of the Athletic Director Organize the specific athletic program so that it is consistent with the District and Oregon School Activities Association goals and objectives for student-athletes Support the academic achievement of student-athletes Direct a successful Grade 9-12 athletic program and oversee programs (youth and middle school) below the high school level Actively participate in and support the youth program that feeds the high school program Organize, schedule, and conduct practice sessions designed to develop the program in a quality fashion as well as to provide for the welfare of the athletes Demonstrate proper active supervision during all scheduled activities of student/athletes including, but not limited to, games, practice, locker room, and transportation Meet with the players and parents prior to or at the beginning of the season. The coaches will explain the program, the risks involved in participating in the sport, the expectations of the student-athletes, and what the parents and athletes can expect from the athletic program. A two-way communication of needs with coaches and parents/students is to be emphasized. Proper player, coach, parent, and fan sportsmanship is to be emphasized Maintain a thorough knowledge of skill development, training techniques, fundamentals, game strategy, and the rules of the sport Work in cooperation with the Athletic Director to arrange for transportation and finances for contests/games. The Head Coach will develop an appropriate itinerary for contests/games Be accountable for expenditures and fund-raising in accordance with established school District procedures and written approval of the athletic director and/or principal. Insure that lost equipment is paid for by the player to who it was issued at a cost equal to the replacement value Prepare, justify, and submit proposed budgetary requirements for the assigned sport to the building Athletic Director. Operate within the current fiscal budget allowances for the sport Be responsible for the care, distribution, and collection of District equipment and supplies Develop and maintain a positive rapport with students, athletes, parents, and assistant coaches throughout the program Hire assistant coaches using the support of the Athletic Director and while meeting District standards and procedures for hiring Collaborate with other District coaches to schedule opportunities for participants to access multiple activities/sports Encourage participants to go out for other sports and activities as they desire Attend all meetings as required by the Athletic Director, Assistant Principal or league leadership Assume responsibility for the conduct and performance of program assistant coaches Report any behavior that endangers the physical, emotional or mental safety of anyone in the program to the Athletic Director within 24 hours Prepare, justify, and submit proposed budgetary requirements for the assigned sport to the building Athletic Director. Operate within the current fiscal budget allowances for the sport Be responsible for the care, distribution, and collection of District equipment and supplies. Insure that lost equipment is paid for by the player to who it was issued at a cost equal to the replacement value Submit the following to the high school Principal and Athletic Director The system that will be used to determine the team members A team roster as soon as the team is determined and revised as necessary throughout the season. The roster should include the following items, where necessary; name, number, height, weight, position, grade, etc. A season summary report within 30-days following the completion of a season that includes, but is not limited to the following: Last current team-roster along with a list of students who tried out in the program, if applicable Student-athletes earning varsity letters List of program inventory items (gear, supplies, uniforms, etc.) and location Names of coaches and volunteers working with the program at the beginning of each season Recruit and take part in the hiring process for assistant coaches in their respective program and assist in the evaluation of assistant coaches Practice professional conduct during events and practices.
