As a Dental Assistant, you will be providing chair-side assistance to the dentist and care and comfortto the patient including: Assisting the dentist in practicing two- orfour-handed dentistry (based on dentist preference), including delivering andretrieving instruments from the dentist, providing suction and retraction asinstructed; also takes needed x-rays, keeps dentist informed as toappointment timing, and provides other assistance as required by the dentistduring the appointment. Reviewing and confirming medical history andcurrent medications with patient, discovers and communicates changes andother relevant health information to dentist; ensures relevant records andX-rays are called up on the computer or otherwise present for review and useby the dentist; performs triage for the dentist. Interacting effectively with patient: meets andgreets patient, escorts patient to operatory, seats and prepares patient forappointment (provides bib, water, etc.) and prepares instrumentation neededby the dentist; at conclusion of visit, instructs patient regardingaftercare, facilitates referrals as needed, and escorts patient to front deskfor future appointments and payment; makes appropriate follow-up calls topatient. Prepares for next day scheduled patient cases. Preparing, maintaining, and breaking down operatoryaccording to protocol before, during, and after patient visit including, butnot limited to: proper stocking of room with required instruments andsupplies, cleaning and maintaining operatory equipment, proper sterilizationof instruments, and cleaning room thoroughly between patients. Contributes to the housekeeping andmaintenance of the office. Interacting effectively with lab personneland/or performs lab functions such as entering lab cases into computer andensuring lab work is ready for appointments; facilitates and/or performsinstrument sterilization.
