Grand River Navigation, located in Traverse City, Michigan is a subsidiary of Rand Logistics. Rand Logistics is the market leader in Great Lakes Shipping and is able to offer significant domestic port-to-port services in both Canada and the US on on the Great Lakes. Grand River Navigation has 7 self-unloading bulk carriers and 3 articulated tug/barges, with over 300 crewmembers.

This full time non-exempt position that requires the individual to work onsite in Traverse City, Michigan.

Position Purpose: Assist the Human Resources and Operations Staff with Administrative Tasks, including but not limited to: Recruiting, Crew Dispatch, Maintenance of Personnel and Training Files, Maintenance of Company Social Media accounts.

Key Job Activities:

Responsible for ensuring the company attracts, hires and retains the best employees, while growing a strong and diverse talent pipeline. Design and publish social media content on Facebook, Instagram and Linked In. Develops and update job postings and prepares recruitment materials. Assisting in sourcing and screening candidates by using databases, social media, and live events. Onboards new employees and lead orientation presentations for a smooth transition to the vessel. Acts as a point of contact and builds influential candidate relationships during the selection process. Assist at hiring venues and maintain collaborative working relations with hiring outreach avenues as directed. Maintains employee personnel files and databases.

Will assist and potentially lead staffing schedules with vessel leadership. Will assist and provide coverage in travel logistics as needed.

Assist with day-to-day Administration operations and fill in where needed.

Scope of Work:

Continuous operations require vessels that are staffed with mariners that are trained, physically qualified, and documented by the US Coast Guard. This position is responsible for ensuring that vessels are fully staffed with qualified mariners. The complexity of this position includes assisting with the hiring and scheduling of 80 to 200 seamen for employment annually. Also ensuring that mariner work schedules are in accordance with union collective bargaining agreements and US Coast Guard regulations.

This position regularly communicates with union representatives and Vessel Managers. Assisting with the hiring and dispatching of merchant seamen to company operated vessels. Communicates with vendors such as travel agencies, employment screening contractors, maritime academies, sea schools and industry groups.

Must be available for duty outside of regular office hours as assigned.

There are no direct reports to this position.

Travel

Occasional Travel for off-site meetings and for visits to Company Vessels is required.

Requirements:

Must be customer oriented, tactful, a problem solver, and possess flexibility. Must be detail oriented and possess excellent organizational and time management skills and work with deadlines.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Requires an associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field or 3 or more years' experience in either the Human Resources discipline or Office Administration. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.

Maritime experience preferred.

Union experience preferred.

COMPETENCY/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be detail oriented and self-motivated with the ability to research and solve problems

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills necessary.

Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.

Excellent oral and written communication skills; good presentation skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint as well as HRIS systems (Paylocity (preferred) or ADP).

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to constantly changing schedules or needs as required.

The ability to prioritize and plan tasks and use time efficiently.

Able to manage and prioritize time commitments in a demanding environment while maintaining a pleasant and professional demeanor.

Compensation details: 52000-55000 Yearly Salary
