Summary: The HR Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting and enhancing human resource functions within the Casino Gaming Operations team. This role involves managing employee relations, ensuring compliance with employment laws, administering HR policies, and maintaining accurate records. The HR Specialist is essential in fostering a positive work environment and providing administrative support to ensure efficient HR operations.Responsibilities:
- Supporting the onboarding process for new hires, ensuring smooth integration into the casinoenvironment.
- Address and resolve employee inquiries and concerns regarding HR policies, and workplace issues. Provide guidance and support to address employee relations matters and maintain a positive work environment.
- Ensuring and maintaining a high level of HR practices and processes adhere to tribal laws and ordinances, other federal, state, and local labor laws, including those specific to casino gaming operations. Stay updated on regulatory changes and adjust practices to ensure compliance.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, including personnel files, benefits documentation, and compliance reports. Prepare and submit HR-related reports as required by management.
- Communication, and enforcement of HR policies and procedures. Ensure that policies are current and align with best practices and legal requirements.
- Support employee engagement activities, such as recognition programs, surveys, and feedback mechanisms. Contribute to initiatives aimed at promoting a positive workplace culture and high employee morale.
- Retention Strategies: Assist and support in developing strategies to improve employee retention and job satisfaction. Monitor turnover rates and identify areas for improvement.
- Utilize HR software and systems to manage employee records and track HR metrics efficiently. Ensure data accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with organizational policies.
- General HR Duties: Perform various administrative tasks related to HR functions, including external inquiries, preparing documentation, and supporting HR projects.
- Safety Programs: Assist in the development and implementation of health and safety programs, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company policies.
- Incident Management: Support the management of workplace incidents, including documentation and follow-up, to ensure adherence to safety protocols and legal requirements.
- As required perform additional duties as assigned by the HR Manager or Director to support business goals and objectives.
Qualifications & Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred; bachelor's degree in HR, Psychology, Business Administration, or related field strongly preferred. HR certifications (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) are a plus.
- A minimum of 3 years in HR focusing on employee relations and compliance or experience in a fast-paced office environment preferred; or 3 years of strong customer service experience in a fast-paced environment may be considered.
- Strong understanding of HR practices, employment laws, and compliance. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and recordkeeping skills. Proficiency in UKG, Microsoft Office Suite, and HR tools preferred.
- Ability to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Familiarity with tribal laws, ordinance and casino gaming operations, industry-specific HR challenges is a plus.
- Ability to handle confidential information, work well under stress, and maintain a positive attitude. Must obtain and maintain a Mohican Nation Gaming License, pass a Criminal Investigation Background Check, and complete pre-employment drug and health screenings. Must be at least 18 years old.
- Courteous, friendly, adaptable, and committed to teamwork and self-development. Willingness to attend all required training and maintain a satisfactory employment record.
Work Conditions:
- Frequently sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands, reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, reach above shoulder level, push/pull, crawl and lift and/or move up to twenty (20) pounds with assistance.
- Work is generally performed in an office setting and occasionally in a casino setting with a higher noise level and where cigarette smoke is prevalent.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision and depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus, with the aid of prescription glasses/contacts, if needed.
- The work environment is nonsmoking, noise level varied, and dust free.
