Position Type: Secretarial/Clerical/Secretary/Office Support - 12-Months Date Posted: 10/11/2024 Location: District Administration Center SUMMARY: The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for a wide range of HR activities, from recruitment and onboarding to handling terminations and HR audits. This role requires a detail-oriented and organized individual who can effectively manage multiple tasks and provide support across various HR functions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. - Maintain discretion and loyalty with confidential information.
- Create and manage job postings across various platforms.
- Facilitate the hiring process, ensuring a smooth transition from candidate selection through conducting onboarding sessions for new employees, and ensuring all necessary documentation is completed.
- Manage the Red Rover and Applitrac systems, ensuring accurate data entry and system updates.
- Provide technical support and training to staff on using these platforms.
- Prepare and distribute new hire letters and employment contracts.
- Handle the administrative aspects of employee terminations and retirements.
- Calculate and process severance packages in accordance with district policies.
- Coordinate with Edustaff and GRBS for temporary staffing needs and support services.
- Ensure compliance with contractual agreements and district requirements.
- Oversee the fingerprinting process and background checks (IChats) for new hires.
- Ensure I-9 forms are completed and maintained accurately.
- Assist in the placement and coordination of student teachers within the district.
- Serve as a liaison between student teachers, universities, and school administrators.
- Track and manage overload and overtime requests for staff.
- Coordinate with the athletics department to ensure HR compliance for coaches and athletic staff.
- Prepare and manage individual contracts for teachers, BCASA members, central office staff, and other individual positions.
- Monitor and track employee attendance records.
- Prepare and distribute attendance letters in accordance with district policies.
- Act as the facilitator for the Registry of Educational Personnel (REP), ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
- Conduct regular HR audits to ensure compliance with district policies and state regulations.
- Address any discrepancies or issues identified during audits.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on district contracts, providing guidance and support to administrators and staff.
- Ensure all contractual obligations are met and maintained.
- Manages multiple projects with ease and accuracy, meeting short and long-term deadlines.
- Works in a collaborative fashion with building principals, staff, other District departments.
- Demonstrates the ability to work without direct supervision.
- To have a thorough knowledge of local, state, federal, and other rules, regulations, guidelines, and legislation applicable to the programs.
- To have a thorough knowledge of the policies of the Bay City Board of Education.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a Human Resources role, preferably within an educational setting.
- Strong understanding of HR practices, policies, and state employment laws.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in HRIS, Red Rover, Applitrac, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Highest level of confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before parents, staff, students, and the community. Demonstrated ability to use both oral and written English appropriately and effectively. Demonstrated effective phone etiquette. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic math computations including rates, ratios, and percentages using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Demonstrate a high degree of math proficiency and the ability to perform projections for budgeting purposes. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Demonstrated ability to use good judgment in decision-making. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to successfully pass basic competency, computer skills testing assessments, and ability to successfully pass a typing test at 30 words per minute with a high degree of accuracy. Demonstrated ability to proficiently operate a personal and mainframe computer and related software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, etc.) Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to maintain a calm demeanor and remain professional in stressful situations. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties through knowledge of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to prioritize work and organize work; with delegating as appropriate. Demonstrated ability to deal with confidential information with a high degree of discretion and loyalty. Ability to multi-task with numerous interruptions.
