About this Role:
The HR Generalist position at Visit Napa Valley directly supports a small, dynamic team. As the HR resource, you will be at the center of defining, building and maintaining a positive and productive workplace culture. You will manage day-to-day HR operations and act as the go-to person for all people-related matters. This role requires someone who has a positive attitude and is comfortable rolling up their sleeves and managing the more granular, hands-on aspects of HR.
What You'll Be Doing:
HR Operations
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave policies.
- Coordinate and manage employee training and development programs to enhance skills and performance.
- Serve as the HR liaison for board meetings, preparing HR-related reports and documentation as needed.
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Oversee the recruitment process for new hires, from sourcing candidates to conducting interviews and onboarding.
- Develop, implement and conduct effective onboarding programs that set new employees up for success from day one.
- Work with managers to identify talent needs and create job descriptions that attract top talent.
Performance Management
- Lead performance management processes, including annual reviews, goal setting, and ongoing feedback.
- Provide coaching and development opportunities for employees to help them achieve their full potential.
- Manage disciplinary actions and terminations, ensuring compliance with all legal requirements.
Employee Relations & Management
- Provide daily support and guidance to employees on HR policies with an emphasis on productivity and positivity to ensure smooth team dynamics.
- Manage employee relations issues, in partnership with outside vendor as needed, with an emphasis on conflict resolution.
- Work with outside vendors to conduct thorough investigations when necessary and partner with leadership to resolve disputes.
- Foster an environment of open communication and trust.
- Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures that align with the organization's goals and values.
- Partner closely with the CEO and Controller to ensure alignment between HR practices and business objectives, keeping a pulse on the team's morale and overall well-being.
Strategic HR Initiatives
- Partner with the leadership team and outside vendor as needed, to drive strategic HR initiatives that support the organization's growth and stability.
- Stay informed about industry trends and best practices to continuously improve HR processes and policies.
- Support change management efforts to ensure smooth transitions and positive employee experience.
What We're Looking For:
Skills and Qualifications
- 5-7 years of experience as an HR Generalist or similar role; preferably in a small company environment.
- Demonstrated tenure in previous roles, with a history of long-term engagement at past organizations.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with employees at all levels.
- Excellent, accurate and professional written & verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Experience working in the Napa Valley is strongly preferred.
- High emotional intelligence and the ability to manage a diverse team with varying needs and personalities.
- Proven track record of successfully managing HR processes.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A hands-on approach to HR, with the willingness to get involved in the day-to-day operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
