Job DescriptionVanderbilt University Maintenance and Operations (VUMO) has an exciting opportunity for an HVAC Mechanic to join the Zone Maintenance Team in Facilities. The HVAC team is responsible for heating and air conditioning systems, chill water systems, heating/hot water systems, steam systems, etc. As an HVAC Mechanic Lead you will be tasked with maintaining the comfort heating & cooling systems for academic buildings, dormitories, and athletic buildings on campus. As an HVAC Mechanic Lead in VUMO you will also troubleshoot & repair refrigerators, ice machines, air machines, chillers, and do preventative maintenance (PM) on all equipment.VUMO provides facilities support for all construction, renovation, and routine maintenance of University Central space and facilities; housekeeping services for approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are a registered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for the University Central and the Medical Center.Facilities annual budget exceeds $100 million in operating expenses and includes over 400 employees. Facilities manages major capital project expenditures totaling ~$125 million annually and facility renewal, replacement and large maintenance project expenditures totaling ~$20 million annually. Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to hot/cold calls
- Change filter in FCU
- Change filter in AHU
- Repair PRV station
- Repair or replace pump motor
- Repair fan motor
- Replace thermostat
- Calibrate thermostat
- Repair AHU
- Repair exhaust units
- Repair intake fans
- Check building pressure
- Check building temperature
- Check condition of electric motors
- Check condition of pumps
- Check condition of AHU
- Check condition of intake fans
- Check control compressor
- Check equipment for proper and safe operation
- Perform all PM tasks on HVAC equipment
- Repair steam/condensate/AHU piping, including replacing valves, traps, using any applicable tools and equipment
- Condensate testing
- Repair, rebuild, replace pumps
- Remove/install pop-off valves on steam stations
- Keep equipment rooms clean and free of clutter/debris
- Assist zone technician, plumber, and carpenter in performance of their duties
- Utilize work order system in all aspects, including parts ordering, printing work orders, parts look-up
- Set up and monitor personal work order query
- Process daily work order time sheet
- Operate vehicle/golf cart and perform operator level maintenance
- Other duties related to classification
Qualifications
- High School Graduate or GED is required
- Must have Universal Certification
- Prefer to have completed a formal HVAC training program
- 5 years of experience in a relevant position
- Must be able to bend, stoop, reach or stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift as at least 70 lbs
- Proficient at troubleshooting and making necessary repairs to FCU
- Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing HVAC split systems
- Working knowledge of pneumatic and DDC Control systems
- Experience with refrigerant recovery systems
- Valid Driver License is required; must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. Vanderbilt University engages a third party to provide up-to-date notifications regarding negative changes to motor vehicle records
