SUMMARY: The Hyperbaric Technician shall assume responsibility for the safety and efficient treatment of patients. The technician should work towards and maintain a Hyperbaric Technician Certification. Hyperbaric training should be obtained at ATMO in San Antonio or a National Board of Diving & Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT) approved hyperbaric medicine introductory training course. The Hyperbaric Tech covers the following additional duties as a Hyperbaric Safety Coordinator:
- Oversees the safety and regulatory requirements of the hyperbaric program in collaboration with the Nursing Director.
- Completes an approved Hyperbaric Oxygen Safety course and should learn how to perform a Transcutaneous Oximetry test in the unit.
- Understands all safety aspects of the chamber.
- Maintains all Hyperbaric safety precautions with all patients, and he/she should ensure that each patient is thoroughly evaluated before entering the chamber.
- Responsible for conducting quarterly safety drills in the Hyperbaric unit, attending hospital safety committee meetings, and maintaining departmental compliance with the Undersea Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS).
- Enters daily data entries for hyperbaric treatments and completes regulatory logs at required intervals.
EXPERIENCE:
- Successful completion of an approved NBDHMT HBOT course. Pre or post hire completion of an approved Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Safety course. Pre-hire course completion must be within the past 5 years.
- One year experience as a Respiratory Therapist, EMT/Paramedic, Registered Nurse, or LPN
