I. TITLE

Assistant Coach

II. PRIMARY FUNCTION

To work under the direction of the head coach and assist in the training and preparing of students to participate in athletic activities/team sports

III. REPORTS TO

Head Coach and Supervisor of Athletics/Intramurals

IV. QUALIFICATIONS:

* New Jersey Teacher's Certificate preferred; County Substitute Certificate considered

* Demonstrates an interest in and an aptitude for performing the tasks listed

* Demonstrates thorough experience, education, or interview, a knowledge of the sport to be coached, and an ability to provide appropriate leadership and direction to the student athlete

* Ability to maintain a positive learning environment and high standards of conduct for athletes

* Such other qualifications of academic, professional, and personal excellence as the Edison Township Board of Education may specify.

V. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Under the direction of the head coach, uses a variety of professionally sound teaching and coaching strategies and techniques designed to produce a competitive and respectable team effort

* Assists in the issuing and collection of athletic equipment and uniforms

* Works with every student to improve her/his effort and make recommendations to the head coach related to player development/progress

* Notify the head coach of all athletic injuries and follow appropriate procedures

* Contributes when requested to the development of athletic programs at lower grades

* Takes necessary precautions to maintain the safety of student-athletes

* Adheres to all board policies, administrative regulations, and NJSIAA regulations in the performance of coaching duties

* Assists in certifying the eligibility of candidates before the start of each season

* Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent and/or designee

VI. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Under the provisions of the BOE/ETEA contract

Other Requirements:

* Applicants must consent to undergoing a background check as required by the state of New Jersey.

* Applicants must consent to undergoing a tuberculosis (TB) check if selected for employment.
