Job Summary:The Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily operation and clinical supervision of the staff in the Department of Nursing. This person is clinically and administratively responsible for the day-to-day oversight of all activities within the Inpatient Service in collaboration with the Director to ensure the delivery of quality patient care that is consistent with regulatory agency standards and evidence-based approaches to clinical management.
Responsibilities:-Establishes and maintains positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees. -Interacts professionally, courteously, and appropriately with patients, visitors, and other employees. -Behaves in a manner consistent with maintaining and furthering a positive public perception of Brookdale Hospital and its employees.-Responsible for the implementation of hospital's policies and procedures, as well as regulatory agencies codes and regulations as they pertain to the Department.-Responsible for operations and management of the unit in collaboration with the Director.-Has overall responsibility for the operation of the unit with all disciplines reporting to the Director.-Coordinates all performance improvement activities so that it is truly an interdisciplinary process. Utilizes appropriate benchmarks.-Assembles and prepares data relative to clinical activities as well as other statistical and special reports required by the N.Y. State Office of Mental Health (OMH), the NY Department of Health (KOH), the NY City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), and the Administration for Children's Services (ACS) (As Applicable).-Reviews and monitors admissions and discharges to ensure appropriate clinical management and discharge planning.-Responsible for gathering performance improvement data, gathering information and meeting compliance standards for regulatory agency surveys, including DOH, and JCAHO.-Other essential functions as deemed necessary such as budgeting, supply and inventory maintenance.-Responsible for operational leadership 24o basis.-Responsible for ensuring that all PCS Scope of service, Philosophy of Nursing and Ethical standards are met while delivering patient care.-Oversees patient care area to ensure clinical needs & competencies are met.-Provides administrative coverage for the Nursing Department as necessary.-Demonstrates respect and professionalism in all interactions.-Demonstrates a commitment to continuing professional growth and development.-Participates in the system of continuing education to increase administrative and clinical knowledge and skills.-Maintains currency with state of the art and regulatory trends.-Monitors and facilitates the meeting of requirements of NYSDOH, JCAHO and other regulators.-Innovative and implements best practices in care.-Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Director and/ or Sr. Vice President for Patient Care Services.-Compliance with regulatory requirements.-HCAPS: Development with team and service.-Outcome and improvement.-Communication plan.
26520863EXPPLATJob RequirementsRequired Skills & Experience:-Minimum five (5) years as Registered Nurse required.-Minimum two (2) years' experience in a leadership role required.-Critical thinking, math, and computer skills; Works as a team player.-Knowledge of quality improvement philosophy models, processes and tools and their use in health care integrated settings.-Knowledge of methods for CQI, and Root Cause Analysis.-Demonstrates competence in leadership, budgetary and administrative skills.-Excellent oral and communication skills.-Experience and demonstrated competency in applicable clinical specialty.-Decision making and problem solving.-Able to read, write, see and hear English.-Ability to fully utilize BHMC's electronic record systems, equipment and healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.-Physical Requirements: Physically demanding, high-stress environment requiring prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.-Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing up to 35 pounds for routine performance of essential functions.-An individual in this position may be exposed to: Adverse indoor environmental conditions, Blood borne pathogens, Blood and body fluids, Physical hazards (e.g., needle pricks, etc.), communicable diseases, chemical hazards, radiation, and repetitive motions.-Full range of body motion, able to lift up to 100 pounds, if necessary, to assist lifting and moving patients-Manual and finger dexterity, as well as hand and eye coordination.-Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range.-Frequently sitting at desk working on computer.-Ability to flex working hours.-On call.
Required Education:-Graduate of accredited Nursing school BSN.
Preferred Education: -Master's Degree in Nursing preferred.
Required Certifications & Licensure:-Licensed and currently registered as a Professional Nurse in New York State required.-Basic Life Support required.-ACLS required.
