The new attorney will join a collaborative legal team that includes two attorneys (one of whom will be the new hire) and two paralegals. This role offers an opportunity to work in a supportive and dynamic environment.

We are seeking a dedicated attorney to join our legal team. The attorney will represent the organization, its affiliates, and client ERISA Funds in various aspects of federal and state court litigation, primarily focusing on collection-related matters. This role involves preparing legal documents and reports for court proceedings, internal management, and Fund Trustees. The attorney will also manage a team of two paralegals and oversee the work of local counsel nationwide to ensure compliance with litigation standards.

This position is primarily a litigation role, with opportunities for additional responsibilities as the new hire gains experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft court documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests, and demand letters.
  • Represent clients in court appearances and arguments.
  • Participate in meetings and negotiations.
  • Prepare for and conduct examinations of parties and witnesses at depositions.
  • Draft Trustees' reports, opinion letters, settlement agreements, meeting minutes, and responses to third-party and governmental inquiries.
  • Collaborate with staff from affiliated organizations and union personnel.
  • Supervise outside local counsel and Fund staff.

Requirements:

  • Law degree and admission to practice in New York State and federal courts.
  • At least 2 years of experience as an attorney.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain legal and financial concepts effectively.
  • Well-developed analytical, advocacy, and organizational skills.
