Job Description :

Registrars patients upon arrival for appointments; makes primary clinic appointments for the Emergency Department referrals and performs a variety of routine administrative tasks to provide for efficient and courteous operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Greets all patients, verifies appointment information, provides directions and responds to inquiries as appropriate

* Interviews patient and/or family member to determine primary visit purpose

* Verifies insurance information, eligibility and benefit coverage

* Reviews patient registration information for updates and/or changes to primary and secondary insurance coverage to ensure accuracy of billing

* Greets and screens all visitors and telephone calls; determines purpose of visit/question and routes appropriately

* Makes primary clinic appointments for Emergency Department referrals

* Updates and amends electronic records as requested

* Answer incoming telephone calls; provide basic information, take messages, establish or confirm appointments.

* Maintains and protects private information in compliance with HIPAA.

* Adheres to departmental and organization rules and local, state and federal laws and regulations.

* Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives

* Regularly participates in trainings and education activities to improve knowledge and skills.

* Serves as a liaison between departments, such as emergency room, Inpatient, Case Management and Social Services, and Specialty clinics.

* Responsible for entering information needed for scheduling in the electronic medical record

* Performs other duties as assigned.

* Completion of a course of study leading to a High School or GED diploma or equivalent

* At least 6 months previous general office reception experience; medical office or health care setting preferred
