Description: - The inclusion program identifies opportunities for children with disabilities to fully participate in a variety of programs with appropriate supportive services. The Inclusion Aide is responsible for providing supportive services to participant(s) with guidance and resources provided by the Inclusion Coordinator.
Job Summary: - The Inclusion Aide assists with the organization, supervision and instruction of planned activities/classes. Inclusion Aide in conjunction with their supervisor is responsible for the safety and well-being of assigned participants.
Qualifications: - Be a positive role model.
- Ability to work with a variety of special populations and age groups.
- Actively and responsibly supervise and encourage the participant to whom you have been assigned at all times.
- Implement recreational activities for individuals of all ages and abilities.
- Must be able to work independently and in small groups.
- Maintain open communication with the Program Supervisor/Coordinator, other staff, and Family/Guardian/Caregiver with information concerning programming, families, group home staff and/or participants.
- Responsible for the health/welfare of individuals during programs including: monitoring distribution and/or administration of medications per caregiver's instructions/ City Medication Policy and seeking clarification of these instructions if necessary.
- Provide First Aid as needed
- Report any unsafe conditions or situations to the Special Recreation Program Coordinator or Site Supervisor.
- Enforce all rules in a clear and positive manner. Implement behavior modification plans and, if certified, use Crisis Prevention Institute de-escalation techniques, or use physical restraints as an absolute last resort.
- Assists supervisor/coordinator/program staff in carrying out activities/classes.
- Assist in personal care of special needs population including assistance with eating, toileting, changing, etc. as needed.
- Assists with set up and clean-up of activities.
- Complete and turn in all reports (incidents, etc) immediately to supervisor.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings and trainings.
- Basic Computer Skills (i.e. Internet usage, data entry, e-mail etc.)
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Inclusion Coordinator or Supervisor.
Requirements:
- 18 years of age or older by first day of employment
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate (GED)
- Demonstrate knowledge of disabling conditions
- Have previous experience with planning and adapting a wide range of recreational activities as needed.
- Prefer CPR/AED certification and first aid training or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Prefer basic sign language skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Medium to Heavy work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or assist with lifting and transferring participants.
- Reaching - extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction;
- Handling - seizing, holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with hands;
- Fingering - picking, pinching, or otherwise working with fingers primarily;
- Talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Hearing - perceiving the nature of sounds.
Rate: Starting at $17.75 / hour
Schedule: This is a seasonal position. Working hours are between 8:00am and 6pm at Robert Crown Community Center.
