Job Summary:

The City of Greeley is seeing an Industrial Pretreatment Specialist to join the Wastewater Treatment Reclamation team at our treatment plant in Greeley, Colorado. The Industrial Pretreatment Specialist reports directly to the Wastewater Technical Services Manager and is a support position that samples and acquires data from commercial and industrial users, applying General Pretreatment Regulations to applicable commercial and industrial users to ensure compliance with Greeley Pretreatment Chapter ordinance requirements. The incumbent will also sample and acquire data from wastewater treatment processes to ensure that the City's Colorado Discharge Permit System (CDPS) permit monitoring requirements are fulfilled according to the City of Greeley, State, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) permits, rules, regulations, and laws.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements

* Current, valid Colorado driver's license with an acceptable record.

* Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field with specialized technical training of equivalent length.

* Relevant experience in environmental laboratory work and field sampling.

* Confined space entry training required or ability to acquire within one (1) year of hire date.

OR

* A combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job may be considered by the hiring authority.

Preferred

* One (1) to three (3) years of experience with an understanding of sampling, monitoring and analysis procedures and protocols, as well as knowledge of Federal, State and

local pretreatment regulations.

* Class D Colorado Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's license

* Wastewater Treatment plant operations experience.

Essential Functions:

* Programs and operates auto samplers, collects samples and data from industrial users to ensure quality, defensible pollutant data to determine compliance with State and

Federal Clean Water Act requirements.

* Programs and operates autosamplers and collects samples and data from WTRF to ensure that the City's Colorado Discharge Permit System (CDPS) permit monitoring

requirements are fulfilled.

* Applies general pretreatment regulations and local ordinances to applicable commercial, industrial users, and

* Cleans and prepares sampling equipment using EPA required techniques.

* Receives analysis data in electronic format and reviews analytical reports to verify that all required pollutant parameters were analyzed according to Federal requirements

of 40 CFR 136.

* Distributes analytical data to interested parties to determine compliance with state and Federal requirements.

* Conducts and maintains a commercial user survey and maintains database on the prescribed frequency.

* Oversees and maintains Best Management Practices programs for dental amalgam and food service establishment commercial sectors.

* Issues written or verbal communications to commercial users regarding any requirements or instructions.

* Investigates complaints of spill and illegal discharges.

* Inspects commercial user sites and prepares investigative reports.

* Provides evidence for possible enforcement actions.

* Develops, organizes, and assists with public outreach/education efforts.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Travel: Approximately 10% of travel may be required.

* Exposure to all weather conditions.

* Work in the area of potential biohazards associated with wastewater treatment processes.

* Occasional entry into confined spaces.

* Occasional work in a laboratory environment with possible exposure to acids, bases, and solvents.

* Work investigating spills and illegal discharges from industrial users in traffic areas or parking lots.

* Subject to driving City vehicle in all weather conditions.

* Employee is subject to working alone, with groups, and/or attends meetings.

* May be required to conduct business in alternate locations within City buildings or field sites, sometimes in formal settings.

* May be required to occasionally work extended hours in the evening, holidays, or weekends.

* Occasional interruptions and be required to manage competing priorities with inflexible deadlines.

* Frequent contact occurs with employees and the public, in person and on the telephone.

* Occasionally required to sit and talk or hear customers.

* Communication skills to interface with other departments and agencies.

Physical Requirements:

* Vision to perform functions such as identifying materials necessary to complete maintenance on equipment, operate vehicles and sampling equipment, locating water,

sewer pipelines, and manholes

* Capability to kneel and stoop.

* Capability to stand for extended periods of time.

* Manual dexterity to operate tools, vehicles, and sampling equipment.

* Flexibility to bend, twist, and reach out to load and unload equipment, supplies, or tools.

* The essential functions of this job require frequent hearing and repetitive motion; continuously sitting and talking; and occasional carrying/lifting and moving objects up to

50 lbs. with assistive tripod and magnetic equipment to hoist manhole covers or other items as needed; crouching, feeling, fingering, reaching, standing, and walking.

* Mobility to stand, sit and move within a confined work area.

* Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data/figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive

reading of printed materials; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines devices, graphs;

* Manual dexterity to accurately input, retrieve, and verify work assignments.
