As an Infection Control Epidemiologist at HCMC, you'll:

  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Infection Prevention program within Howard County Medical Center.

  • Implement the Infection Prevention program in your area of responsibility to drive change.

  • Continuously evaluate all policies, procedures, and practices relating to infection prevention and control within the institution to ensure all evidence- based infection prevention practices are implemented, assuring optimum protection for all patients, visitors, and staff.

  • Conduct surveillance, provide education, lead performance improvement initiatives, and manage outbreaks and exposures.

  • Interact effectively with personnel in a wide range of hospital and university positions, implement infection control policies, teach informally and formally in both small and large group, and lead unit- based and facility wide performance improvement efforts.

  • Utilize knowledge of epidemiology, infectious diseases, modes of disease transmission, principles of infection control and prevention, performance improvement, and adult learning methods.

  • Be accountable to the Infection Control Manager for meeting these responsibilities.

What you'll bring:

  • 2+ years of related work experience, which includes Infection Control, Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, Health Education, or Public Health.

  • Experience as an Infection Preventionist at a hospital is highly preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree required in Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, or a related discipline.

  • Master's degree in Public Health or a related discipline preferred.

  • Ability to obtain Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within 2 years of hire.

  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control, epidemiology, microbiology, clinical practice related to infection prevention, evidence-based infection prevention measures, healthcare- associated infections, cleaning, disinfection and sterilization, adult education, regulatory requirements, and performance improvement.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
