Position Type: Teacher/Teacher: ElemDate Posted: 10/17/2024Location: Oakmont Elementary SchoolDate Available: October 2024Description: The Innovation Specialist of Gifted, STEM and Fine Arts will lead the development, achievement, and maintenance of high-quality education standards in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), Science applications, Fine Arts, and College and Career Readiness. The specialist will support the campus in seamlessly integrating STEM, GATE, Science, Fine Arts, and College and Career Readiness principles into educational frameworks, empowering campus leadership and educators to enhance student performance. Additionally, the role will involve providing science support and facilitating Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to promote collaborative learning and professional development among educators. Qualifications: Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas Teaching credentials (Preferably in Math and/or Science; EC-6; ESL)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Strong content knowledge as it pertains to both STEM and gifted and talented education best practices
  • Knowledgeable about Math and/or Science Curriculum and Instructions
  • Experience with Project-Based Learning (PBL)
  • Experience with Problem-Based Learning
  • Experience with Performance-Based Learning
  • Experience with Engineering Design Process
  • Knowledge and experience with a rigorous curriculum and instructional strategies
  • Experience implementing culturally relevant pedagogy
  • Knowledge of Multiple Intelligence in the classroom
  • Knowledge of effective instructional strategies and research-based best practices
  • Evidence of skills in planning, organization, collaboration, and lesson delivery
Experience:
  • 3 years as a recent successful classroom teacher (Math and/or Science)
  • Experience with embedding STEM activities in other disciplines
Job Summary: Gifted and Talented Education
  • Develop and implement a curriculum emphasizing higher-order thinking skills and depth and complexity in intellectual, creative, artistic, and leadership capacities.
  • Utilize depth and complexity pedagogy and project-based learning in lesson planning to enhance students' cognitive abilities.
  • Organize and lead Gifted and Talented (GATE) field trips providing enriching experiences beyond the standard curriculum.
  • Collaborate with campus teachers to differentiate lesson plans tailored to meet the needs of GATE students, ensuring personalized learning experiences.
  • Infuse the Engineering Design Process into all lesson plans to foster STEM practices, aligning with the advanced learning approaches of GATE education.
  • Oversee campus-wide GATE testing procedures, ensuring accurate identification and placement of eligible students.
  • Monitor GATE hours of campus staff to maintain compliance with program requirements and ensure adequate support for GATE students.
  • Provide tools and resources to families and educators to promote equitable representation of diverse student populations in G/T programs, fostering inclusivity and accessibility.
  • Continuously evaluate and adapt G/T services to meet the diverse needs of all learners, including those who may be twice-exceptional, culturally, linguistically, or socio-economically diverse.
STEM
  • Lead the integration of cutting-edge technologies and innovative practices across STEM education.
  • Employ the Engineering Design Process to craft comprehensive district-wide lesson plans, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills.
  • Cultivate a culture of design thinking, utilizing a diverse array of tools, including 3D printing and other maker movement technologies.
  • Manage the installation and upkeep of innovative technology equipment and systems, ensuring optimal functionality for district-wide administrative and educational needs.
  • Coordinate engaging STEM events such as STEM nights, STEM days, and Engineering lessons.
  • Organize and execute after-school programs to encourage participation in STEM education, including initiatives for Girls in STEM and Young Men In STEM, STEM Robotics, and STEM Electrical Engineering.
  • Play a key role in coordinating and participating in district wide events like Digiton, Mission Possible, STEM Wars, STEM Fairs, STEM field trips, and STEM student conferences.
  • Demonstrate an ability to motivate and inspire students towards pursuing higher education and STEM careers through collaboration with CISD CTE programs and initiatives.
Science Support
  • Promote district instructional priorities by providing support in building teacher capacity through high impact strategies such as in-class coaching, peer observation, co-teaching and modeling.
  • Facilitate professional learning communities and assist teachers with collaborative lesson planning.
  • Actively engage campus staff, families, and students in fostering a vibrant and inclusive science community.
  • Champion inclusivity and diversity within science education, ensuring equitable access and celebrating varied cultures and backgrounds.
Fine Arts
  • Integrate comprehensive, structured, sequenced, and appropriately challenging experiences, including options in the four (4) foundation curricular areas: arts, leadership, creativity, and career & technical education.
  • Collaborate with educators to integrate art into the curriculum, emphasizing its role in developing 21st-century skills by supporting teachers in identifying how the arts can enhance student learning and promote the strands outlined in the revised TEKS.
  • Facilitate and guide creativity, innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking through art education in connection with grade level core content standards at least once a semester.
Other
  • Perform any and all duties as assigned.
