SUMMARY
Works (1/2) of the time with the principal to create and maintain a positive school academic climate among parents, students, and school staff. Works (1/2) of the time with underachieving students to facilitate learning and improve skills in the classroom to assist the teaching staff of public or private elementary or secondary settings.
Bilingual experience preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree or 48 semester hours of college credit or successful completion of ParaPro Assessment test required. Prior work experience of three to six months with young people in a school or childcare setting.
The incumbent will have organizational skills to be able to compile and maintain Title I documentation and have basic computer skills. Must have access to dependable transportation. Must be able to work without constant direct supervision.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides instructional interventions under the direction of a licensed teacher that reinforces reading, language arts and /or mathematics instruction of the classroom teacher.
Helps prepare students for formal and informal assessments.
Assists the classroom teachers with the implementation of the school improvement plan.
Creates and maintains working relationships between parents, students, and school staff including conducting academic workshops and home visits for parents.
Assists with plans to improve involvement of parents including maintaining records of parent meetings of school for district office, recruiting parents for building level and district-wide parent councils.
Maintains a Parent Center.
Maintains records of Title I students served and their progress. Assists in the collection and compilation of student, parent, teacher, and community data.
School duties will require some evening hours, travel throughout the neighborhood, and visiting homes.
Other duties may be assigned by the principal as aligned with Title I job description.
