$2,000 bonus!Provides classroom and environmental supports, under the direction of a special education teacher, to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP) served in general and special education locations. Performs routine clerical and instructional assignments within established procedures and standard practices. Contacts are made within and outside the department; Requires professional ethics in the handling of confidential student and family information. Each Instructional Assistant will have a specific set of work assignments, as directed by the special education teacher, specific to meeting the needs of students as indicated in the child's IEP.Essential Job Functions:Assists special education teachers with classroom duties, including, but not limited to recording grades, preparing instructional materials, and administering instructional and testing accommodations.Assists the special education teacher by supporting students during instructional activities (e.g., one-on-one, in small groups, during whole group instruction) as directed by the special education teacher; documents student progress as directed by the special education teacher.Assists students onto and off the school bus and supervises students at lunch, recess as indicated in the child's IEP.Serves as an aide on the school bus, both to and from school, as indicated in the child's IEP.Works with students under the direction of the special education teacher(s) and related services providers, as appropriate, to implement the child's IEP.Participates in training and implementing support for students related to toileting, personal care, and basic healthcare related needs (e.g., using a Hoyer lift, tube feeding, seizure intervention) as indicated in the child's IEP. May serve in the absence of the clinic assistant if trained in procedures.Implements accommodations in a child's IEP as directed by the special education teacher.Provides clerical assistance - typing, filing, maintaining records and ordering supplies and classroom materials.Performs other related duties as required.Budgetary Responsibility:N/AReport Preparation:N/AEquipment Operation:Skill in use of computer, duplicating equipment and various assistive technology devices.Work Direction:N/ASupervision:N/ADecision Making:Performs functions independently as directed and guided by classroom teacher.Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities:N/APhysical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to manipulate or handle controls, objects, and or other materials; reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, bend and may be required to lift up to fifty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.Work Environment:While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a school or office environment. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.Some knowledge of childhood growth and development, behavior management techniques and clerical procedures; of general academic subjects sufficient to teach others. Demonstrated ability to supervise children in the absence of the special education teacher; to perform basic clerical tasks, communicate effectively orally and in writing and follow oral and written instructions. Demonstrated ability to work professionally with students, staff.High School diploma, training, or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position requires current First Aid/CPR/AED certification. Individuals must attend provided training and renew as mandated. Assignment placement may require additional training requirements such as and/or specific training on aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).Minimum State Requirements for Title I Schools:Has passed the Paraprofessional Assessment with a minimum score of 455 orHas a minimum of 48 semester hours/credits from a regionally accredited college or universityCollege transcripts or parapro scores must be submitted to be considered for this position.
