Position Type: Support Staff/Restorative Support InstructorDate Posted: 7/23/2024Location: Mark Twain SchoolDate Available: ASAPClosing Date: Until FilledJOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: ALTERNATIVE LEARNING EDUCATIONAL INSTRUCTOR QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum four-year degree preferred. Sixty college hours with extended experience as a successful aide within the school district can be e accepted with approval from Chapter 1 Director. REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Instructor Program and Building Principal. JOB GOAL: To provide small groups of students supplemental instruction within the student's classroom. To help below average students achieve and maintain grade level proficiency through more individualized instruction. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Works with students of greatest need as identified by Supervisor and classroom teacher. 2. Provides small group instruction to students within their regular classroom, on a daily scheduled basis. (Small groups will be a maximum of six students and a minimum of two students.) 3. Writes lesson plans based on district curriculum under supervision of Instructor Supervisor. 4. Instructs students a minimum of 275 minutes per day. Seventy-five percent (75%) of this time will be devoted to teacher directed instruction; students identified by the classroom teacher, lesson plans written by or directed by the classroom teacher. (This and all other responsibilities assigned apply only when not in direct conflict with Chapter 1 Policy as outlined by the U.S.Department of Education.) Instructor schedules should include approximately one (1) hour per day for teacher coordination and lesson planning and preparation. A maximum of thirty (30) minutes per day may be allocated for classroom teacher coordination and support activities (not to be included as a part of the 275 minutes of classroom schedule.) 5. Math and reading will be the primary focus of instructional time in the absence of remedial math and remedial reading programs. If a remedial reading program is present, the focus should be on math. 6. Consults on a regular basis with the students' classroom teacher and works cooperatively to insure coordination of instruction received by the students. 7. Supervises students during the lunch period, recess or before or after school when duty is assigned. Duties to be equal to or less than normally assigned to other staff. Any such additional responsibilities should in no way interfere with daily instructional responsibilities. 8. Follows a schedule of instructional periods, to be developed by the Supervisor in coordination with building principals and classroom teachers. 9. Maintains a record of each student's attendance in small group instruction, a roster of students served by Chapter 1, and prepares a monthly report on students enrolled in their building served by Chapter 1. 10. Participation in the testing and identification of students qualifying for Chapter 1 services (under the direction of the supervisor). 11. Attends in-service meetings during and after school for the facilitation of the program, and staff development. 12. Maintains documentation on students' progress in the program through IMS, testing, and other means to be designated by the supervisor. 13. Performs any other duties as assigned. 14. If the responsibilities, as outlined, do not serve the needs of the students, or an exceptional situation occurs, the supervisor may waive some conditions with the prior approval of the Chapter 1 director. 15. Instructors will adhere to all local, state and federal regulations that concern their position. 16. Instructors will also abide by all rules and regulations established by the Poplar Bluff Board of Education.ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS REQUIRED FOR POSITION: 1. Must be physically mobile - climb stairs, lift and carry materials between and within buildings. 2. Must be able to communicate (both verbal and written) with students, staff and parents. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 184 day contract, 35 hours weekly, current instructor salary schedule. EVALUATION: Performance of the job will be evaluated by the Instructor Supervisor in accordance with Board Policy.
