The position requires a high school diploma and the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as the Living Room is a 24-hour, 7 days/week program. The position also requires a valid driver's license from the state of residence with less than three (3) violation points in the last three (3) years.Qualifications High School Diploma and a year of experience providing direct services to homeless individuals in shelter or street outreach Proficiency in modern business communications including personal computers, electronic mail, voicemail, facsimile and copier equipment A valid driver's license from the state of residence with less than three (3) violation points in the last three (3) yearsEssential Duties and Responsibilities Work day, evening, or overnight shifts as assigned, including holidays Engage clients in the services the program offers in a non-judgmental fashion using empathy and motivational interviewing Provide immediate direct services to new clients of the drop-in center, including intake, engagement, assessment, referral, advocacy, counseling, exit summaries and follow-up Manage a case load of brief service clients Provide intake documentation for safe haven clients who arrive during non-business hours Monitor and document clients use of the drop-in center Document all interactions with, or on behalf of, clients Maintain familiarity with program resources available on and off-site Conduct regular case conferences with clients and senior staff on an as-needed basis Perform additional duties as assignedProgram Specific Responsibilities Maintain access to AWARDS, CARES, and StreetSmart Maintain accurate records in Awards and update CARES for drop-in clients. Complete intake packages for new safe haven clients Provide written statistical reports on Drop-in Center clientsSkills/Abilities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Good writing skills Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required, to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field workBronxWorks seeks to build an inclusive organization grounded in respect for differences.
