Job Summary and Qualifications

The RN Admission/Assessment Specialist facilitates access to mental health services by conducting an initial nursing assessment of each patient as well as a behavioral health assessment for adults and/or children to determine the most appropriate level of treatment. The RN Admission/Assessment Specialist is expected to present in a professional, caring and understanding manner to persons inquiring of assistance and committed to help the individuals(s) connect to resources needed via hospital programs or other resources in the community. The Registered Nurse performs direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act.

What you will do in this role:

  • Demonstrates clinical knowledge of psychiatric nursing and maintains the highest quality of comprehensive patient care.
  • Triages patients
  • When determined patient is to be admitted completes INA, Broset, Health History Assessment, Admission Shift Assessment, First Pain Assessment, COVID Assessment, Vaccine Assessment, initial Recovery Plan entry, medical reconciliation, contacts MD for orders and enters orders accordingly.
  • Utilizes knowledge of growth and development, psychopathology, and psychosocial systems to ensure appropriate evaluation of patients across various ages.
  • Utilizes appropriate skills in telephone etiquette when answering the telephone, making sure to record correct message and pass along to appropriate staff, including patient inquiries.
  • Conducts behavioral health assessment on adults and/or children with behavioral health symptoms.
  • Provides provisional diagnosis using the DSM 5 for each patient assessment.
  • Communicates recommendation of treatment to psychiatrist in a professional and therapeutic manner.
  • Maintains positive relationships with referral sources, formal and informal.
  • Converses with various insurance companies to ensure payment for services.
  • Treat all patients and family with respect and without judgement.
  • Makes necessary contacts with community resources to ensure continuity of care.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the competency validation checklist(s).
  • Demonstrates age specific knowledge of human growth and development, assessment, range of treatment and care of patients.
  • Ensures the privacy of our patients and confidentiality of their Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Demonstrates ability to perform technical skills and procedures.
  • Documents all patient care.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills.
  • Promotes customer service initiatives.
  • Promotes and exhibits teamwork.
  • Completes mandatory education.
  • Complies with hospital policies/procedures and patient safety initiatives.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Registered Nurse
  • Associate Degree
