Responsibilities:
Marathon Pipe Line LLC (MPL) is looking for a highly motivated student to help with the implementation of MPL's Sustainability goals and strategies. MPL is committed to implementing land management practices that ensure pipeline safety while providing environments for native plants and other species to thrive. As part of the intern/co-op experience, the student will gain knowledge in Integrated Vegetation Management (IVM), and wildlife programs (such as the monarch candidate conservation agreement with assurance, pollinator partnership, and other biodiversity initiatives). The intern/co-op will:
* Have exposure to data collection and analysis for both decision making and reporting.
* Support development and implementation of vegetation management plans.
* Gain familiarity of pipeline regulations, pipeline operations, land contractors and consultants.
* Assist with the development and implementation of alternative management practices to promote biodiversity.
* Compile data and help with analysis for Sustainability Reporting.
* Investigate government programs and potential partnerships with nonprofit organizations.
The intern/co-op may also be asked to investigate government conservation programs and regenerative farming practices to determine how these programs can be applied across MPL. Individuals with a focus in data science or analytics may also be asked to assist in the build-out of MPL's vegetation management database, responsible for building automated workflows or constructing data dashboards. Potential future career opportunities for the selected individual include but are not limited to Environmental Professional, Right of Way Specialist, or positions within Corporate Sustainability.
Qualifications:
* Concurrent enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program majoring in Environmental Science or Policy; Natural Resource Management (Forestry, Fisheries, and Wildlife); Environment, Economy, Development, and Sustainability; or a related discipline for the duration of the experience
* Strong academic performance
* Candidate must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time indefinite basis for our Company without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future
* Military experience is a plus
* MS Office applications (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
* Knowledge of Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) Geographic Information System (GIS) or other GIS software
* Survey and Mapping
