**Overview**

The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

Students will enhance their existing skill set by learning strategies to improve healthoutcomes in diverse communities by supporting community response work, health education strategies, and creating culturally competent resources that can be utilized by communities to prevent or manage cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and stroke.

**Internship Overview:**

+ Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week

+ Internship Duration:1/21/25-5/2/25

+ **Hybrid position. Intern must be based in** **one of the following counties in Pennsylvania** **: York, Dauphin, Cumberland, Adams, Franklin, Fulton, Perry, Lancaster, or Lebanon.**

+ Salary: $23.00 per hour

**Responsibilities**

Tasks could include things like the following:

+ Assist Community Impact staff implementing health equity priority programs, American Heart Association events, Healthy for Life lessons, Hands-Only CPR training, Heart Healthy Presentations, clinical programs outreach, and health fairs/community outreach events.

+ Participate in coalition/task force meetings virtually and/or in-person.

+ Interns will support policy, systems and environmental change work in the South Central Pennsylvania Market.

+ Health fair attendance - distributing material and one on one education.

+ Hands-Only CPR demonstrations and community education - use manikins to teach people how to properly perform hands-only CPR (chest compressions.

+ Health-related presentations - small to large groups as they gain experience using the American Heart Association's EmPOWERED to Serve presentations, Healthy for Life, or Life's Essential 8.

+ Special event support - participating in events and socials (i.e., Heart Ball, Go Red for Women, or Heart Walk.

+ Sponsorship Activations - assist with sponsorship activations locally, such as calling or emailing potential partners for things like CPR kit placements, teaching Healthy for Life lessons, etc.

+ Resource inventory - prepping items for events, organizing, etc.

+ Customer response - returning voicemails, responding to requests, help schedule the Association's staff for events/presentations, etc.

**Qualifications**

+ **Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in public health or related degree.**

+ Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.

+ Ability to work professionally with colleagues and professional volunteers.

+ Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.

+ Intermediate use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Canva, and PowerPoint.

+ Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection and reliable Transportation.

+ **Minimum availability of 20 hrs/week, Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:30am-5pm, with additional weekday evening events, and some weekend events.**

+ **Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be** **performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.**
