General Purpose Participate in the Health & Safety department team environment, familiarizing with the role of the health and safety function within an electric utility employing electrical and other craft workers. Conduct worker exposure assessments during power generation and power delivery operations, to include assessments of noise, air contaminants, and heat stress. Direct monitoring/logging instruments will be the primary methods used, and evaluations may also include media collection methods. Written reports will be assembled with oversight from Certified Industrial Hygienists. Internship will include presentation of assessment project summary and findings to upper management. This position can be based out of Salt Lake City, Utah, Medford or Portland, Oregon, but will require significant travel to various locations within six-states of operations. Responsibilities Complete health and safety training required to perform work in power generation facilities and power delivery worksites. Perform worker exposure assessments using noise dosimeters, dust monitors, and active and passive sampling media. Calibrate sampling equipment as needed. Conduct worker interviews and collect field observations. Assemble data, derive exposure estimates, and perform data analysis. Provide draft and final sampling reports, including findings and recommendations for all agents sampled. Assemble executive summaries and present findings to upper management. Requirements Junior standing or higher in a Safety, Hygiene, Health or Nursing degreed program (Sophomores with sampling experience will also be considered). Ability to interact favorably with project and work teams. Communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations. Proficient with the use of personal computers and sampling equipment. Graduate students working on Master programs are eligible to apply and pay will be commensurate with current year in school.
