Posting DetailsPosition Information Job Title International Student Advisor Position Number 998888 Department Center for International Studies Salary $40,000 Job Summary/Description Provide personalized service and professional assistance to international students on a wide variety of issues, including academic advising, housing, admissions, visa-related, and other relevant areas.Typical Duties/Job Duties
  • Serve and advise international students on various issues, answer questions and provide information concerning personal issues, admissions requirements, degree programs, housing, financial aid, scholarships, immigration, health insurance, travel, taxes, campus activities, and related matters; advise students on class scheduling, degree choice, and related concerns; assist students in completing all admissions processes.
  • Serve as liaison and mediator for international students with campus personnel, families, community members, prospective employers, institutions, agencies, and governments on issues related to international students and their educational programs.
  • Assist with maintenance and supervision of international student records, database, admissions processing including evaluating United States transcripts and other administrative tasks related to them, such as preparing memos, drafting office correspondence, researching and preparing reports, student budgets, federal documents, and applications. Assume duties associated with advising on federal regulations that impact international students (serve as Designated School Official, DSO), maintain all documents required by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), as well as other areas of office specialization such as publications, admissions, programming, and/or financial aid.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of student programming activities such as new student check-in and orientation, seminars, special topic workshops, International Education Week, and joint programming with other campus or community entities. Responsible for monthly reports to assure students are maintaining proper visa status, maintains DHS files for students that contain copies of passports, I-20's and any correspondence, collects insurance payments, and processes official transcripts to exchange students after completion of the program.
  • Coordinate international student activities with the ELLI Coordinator in the Center for International Studies. Assist with U.S. passport application process. Represent the University on matters involving international students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Knowledge of the local community, attractions, and events
    • Ability to operate personal computers and Microsoft Office software
    • Skilled in oral and written communication
    • Skilled in interpersonal relations
    Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in related field
    • Valid Texas driver's license
    • Familiarity with providing services for people of diverse cultural backgrounds, experiences and ages
