Location : Northwest--Maryville campus in Maryville, MO Job Type: Full-time Job Number: 802120 Department: International Involvement Center Opening Date: 01/31/2025 EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Full-time position PRIMARY DUTY: The International Student Services Specialist will work under the general supervision of the Director of the International Involvement Center and with the Assistant Director of the International Involvement Center. The International Student Services Specialist maintains institutional recordkeeping and compliance procedures in the Department of Homeland Security's Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), a national electronic tracking and monitoring system for international students and their dependents. This position accurately enters biographic data into SEVIS, creates documents and successfully tracks data for all students in pre/post completion OPT and STEM OPT Extension work authorization applications. This position assists the Assistant Director and Director to provide support to all international students as well as IIC staff and campus stakeholders. The job is fast-paced and requires attention to detail, a high level of organization skills, as well as an appreciation of working with international students. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Serve as a Designated School Official in compliance with Federal SEVP and Department of Homeland Security regulations for international student reporting and visa compliance 2. Input data into the SEVIS system for records maintenance, including address and employment updates 3. Monitor SEVIS and produce reports as needed by DHS, USCIS, CBP and ICE to include: a. Active Students Requiring OPT Reporting b. Students in Initial Status with Port of Entry Records c. Students Who Have Approved OPT without Current Employer Information 4. Guide all graduating students with post completion Optional Practical Training work authorization procedures and manage the application process from education and outreach, through initial advisement, to document creation, records maintenance, and submitting applications 5. Guide all graduated students with STEM OPT Extension work authorization procedures and manage the application process from education and outreach, through initial advisement, to document creation, records maintenance, and submitting applications 6. Review six-month validation reports for students on post completion OPT and STEM OPT Extension work authorizations, including the annual and final evaluations submitted through Form I-983, Training Plan for STEM OPT Students for up to three years after graduation 7. Keep up-to-date with changes in immigration policies and best practices and update IIC staff 8. Advise, guide, and assist students with various immigration forms, including correspondence via email and taking phone calls from students 9. Work with SEVP and USCIS to process correction requests to SEVIS records/OPT work authorizations 10. Work with Customs and Border Protection for I-94 Arrival and Departure Record corrections 11. Assist the Assistant Director of the International Involvement Center with cultural programming events throughout the academic year and orientation each semester 12. Assist with international student arrivals for each intake of new students 13. Actively participate in the department's planning and processing of data management 14. Perform other duties as assigned REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelor's degree Certification/License: Valid driver's license Experience: Clerical, data entry or customer service experience Skills: Functional knowledge of databases, data entry, MS Office, ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, excellent organizational skills; office management skills Other: US Citizenship or Legal Permanent Residency (LPR/Green Card) needed to access SEVIS WORKING CONDITIONS: This position will work in a fast-paced office setting in Maryville on the Northwest Missouri State University campus. This position may require some non-traditional work hours. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May assist with oversight of student employee tasks EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Office machines including computer and software (i.e. Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.) TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Extended hours using desktop computers and LCD screens to enter data and produce documents and ability to lift up to 20 pounds COMMUNITY: Northwest Missouri State University is located in Maryville, Missouri, a community of 12,000 with a diverse economy and a strong industrial base.
