Perishable Distributors of Iowa Job Title: Inventory Control Assistant Department: Accounting FLSA: Non-Exempt General Function Responsible for the daily perpetual inventory reconciliation and the accuracy of inventory including adjustments and corrections. Reporting Relations: Accountable and Reports to: Director of Accounting Positions that Report to you: None Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time. Adheres to company policies and departmental guidelines.
  • Completes daily perpetual inventory and inventory sync reconciliation and investigates variances.
  • Assures all credit vouchers are correct and researches questionable credit vouchers. Approves and codes all credit vouchers. Prepares month end accrual.
  • Maintains inventory by performing data entry of customer adjustments, and maintaining accuracy of units of measure, description, etc.
  • Performs data entry of vendor adjustments to adjust physical inventory.
  • Verifies receiving edit and batch with bill of lading, researches and corrects information, and enters into computer system.
  • Researches and corrects inventory problems for all departments.
  • Responsible for entering and maintaining off-site inventory including posting off-site P.O.'s to inventory and tracking offsite charges.
  • Coordinates the entire Off Site Storage program. Analyzes data from inventory control and buyers to determine seasonal storage needs. Solicits various cold storage vendors to negotiate pricing and arranges logistics for inbound products from off site.
  • Responsible for seafood transfers for master case items broken down.
  • Performs cycle counts as directed by management.
  • Functions as back-up for accounting support staff as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:
  • Ability to understand basic math and algebraic concepts.
  • General understanding of accounting and bookkeeping procedures.
  • Good problem-solving capabilities with regard to accounting discrepancies.
  • Good clerical and general office skills, word processing, and spreadsheet abilities (Excel).
  • Good verbal communication, phone, and interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience:
  • High school education or equivalent required. College level accounting preferred.
  • 2 years of office, bookkeeping, and accounting experience preferred. 2 years warehouse experience preferred.
Physical Requirements: This job is considered sedentary to light in nature according to the Department of Labor Weight Classifications with the primary functions of the job being sedentary in nature. This is considered a semi-skilled position. Frequent to constant handling of papers, full reaching motions occur, constant listening, talking or hearing. Working Conditions:
  • Office (climate controlled)
  • May be required to go across warehouse dock to warehouse office while encountering cold temperatures (35° to -8°) and warehouse conditions.
Equipment Used to Perform Job: AS/400, P.C., 10-key calculator, Microsoft Office, fax machine, photocopier, office telephone system. Contacts: Has daily contact with warehouse and office personnel. Confidentiality: Has access to confidential information including invoice pricing from vendors and inventory totals.
