The position of Information Support Specialist is of great significance to Valley Wide Cooperative. A person in this position provides software and network support, training and troubleshooting in a networked microcomputer environment. Provides support on a wide range of applications including Corel, Microsoft, and Novell products. May periodically travel to satellite sites. A person in this position is responsible for maintaining confidentiality in matters relating to customers, and employees of Valley Wide Cooperative and Valley Agronomics.
Job Summary:
These are the basic requirements of the position and must be performed competently.
* Responsible for installing end-user devices, troubleshooting PC, printer and network connectivity issues, work request analysis and completion and technical assistance on projects.
* Installation of designated hardware, software, etc. that best meets the business and functional requirement of the cooperative.
* Interaction with hardware vendors.
* Performs hardware/software upgrades to existing computer equipment as needed. Perform routine problem analysis and resolution providing recommendation of technical solutions to problems.
* Responds to calls on site or over the phone for users in a timely, efficient, courteous manner; completing documentation on assignments as required, and training/assisting employee and customers on problems.
* Investigates error messages and determines resolution.
* Reinstalls program or replaces files that are causing errors.
* Calls software vendor or accesses online technical support to obtain software update.
* Also responds to network log on house calls.
* Investigates appropriate areas of potential problem and determines resolution as required; research possible solutions to provide the most appropriate technical recommendation.
* Manage system problems and changes according to Valley Wide Cooperatives processes.
* Provide timely and efficient courteous support to staff.
* Responsible for traveling between locations to perform assigned duties.
* Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS/PREREQUISITES:
* Requires an AA/AS degree in computer related field plus two years relevant experience; a BA/BS degree in computer science or related discipline; or the combination of education and experience that enables performance of all aspects of the position.
* 2 years past work-related experience in information technology preferred.
* Requires the ability to independently perform all of the duties of the position efficiently and effectively.
* Must be able to install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain all of the software applications and peripheral equipment used.
* Requires special technical knowledge of the techniques and procedures of software and network support for multiple users.
* Must have strong communication skills; ability to communicate in appropriate, professional manner with managers, supervisors, employees, customers, vendors, and general public.
* Must be able to make appropriate decisions and execute them according to policy.
* Must have ability to determine order of need and task priority based on level of importance.
* Must exhibit a professional and positive image.
