Galveston County Health District is seeking an IT Systems and Data Temp! This position is responsible for managing the maintenance and support of all server and database technologies within the District, ensuring their optimal performance and reliability. Required: • Associate's degree in a technical field required; Bachelor's degree preferred. • 3+ years of experience as a server administrator, with a strong proficiency in SQL and scripting languages such as PHP and Perl, including hands-on experience in performance database tuning and optimization. • Strong understanding of Microsoft Enterprise Server, Electronic Faxing Solutions, SAN/NAS storage technologies, and TCP/IP, SMTP, DNS. Extensive hands-on experience with backup software and managing enterprise-level Windows server environments, including prior responsibility for Windows server administration. • Familiarity with server and network environments, as well as virtualization platforms such as Hyper-V. Preferred experience in the installation, use, and maintenance of technology equipment, including Personal Computers, PC Networks, Microsoft Networking Software, Cisco PBX and telecommunication equipment, Windows Server and Windows Networking Components, SQL Server, and Microsoft SharePoint. • Solid understanding of fiber networks, modems, wireless technologies, DMZ, IIS, FTP, VPN, and NAS technologies. • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft networks. • Experience with data replication (e.g., database, storage, or cloud-based replication) is a plus. • Microsoft and Cisco technical certifications are highly preferred. • NEXTGEN EMR experience is preferred. • Government experience is a plus. • Strong customer service orientation, with the ability to effectively interact with clients and stakeholders. • Willingness and ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed. • Ability for spur of the moment transportation without relying on organization vehicles. • Must possess or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. • Department of Motor Vehicle check may be required, if applicable. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Must be in compliance with GCHD Immunizations policy. • Must be in compliance with ICS training requirements. • Must pass criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening. An equivalent combination of education and work experience which appropriately demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above-described essential functions will be considered when hiring for this role. Traditional Duties: • Diagnose, resolve, and prevent server issues, ensuring high availability and reliability of District network resources while maintaining data integrity and proactively identifying potential discrepancies. • Administer SQL and other databases within the production environment, including installation, configuration, backups, recovery, upgrades, schema modifications, and optimizing performance for both staging and production instances. • Provide 24/7 monitoring, troubleshooting, and support for production and training environments, ensuring quick resolution of issues and continuous system uptime. • Support and define strategies for database platforms, including data acquisition, recovery, migration, archiving, and disaster recovery procedures, collaborating with the IT Manager for execution and regular reviews. • Deploy software updates and security patches, ensuring systems remain secure and functional, and adhere to server backup and disaster recovery policies, including regular data backup/restore reviews and mechanisms for relational databases. • Evaluate and plan for future database and server requirements, working with the IT Team to optimize resources for scalability, growth, and system performance. • Coordinate and manage system-related projects and upgrades, ensuring all controls are in place to safeguard District data and overseeing data migration between environments for application development projects. • Assist with specialized application programs (e.g., ESO, NextGen EMR, ArcGIS) as needed, while developing database triggers and procedures for seamless integration with backend systems. • Create ad-hoc reporting solutions and help establish regular operational procedures for reporting across database instances. • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft networks with additional experience and expertise in SQL as well as other databases and application support. • Apply Software and Database patches and upgrades across workstations. • Manage the imaging and deployment of new IT assets. • Make recommendations and advise the help desk team. • Assist with day-to-day service desk calls. • Perform additional duties assigned by the manager, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach to District needs.
