The Executive Director is responsible for general administration of the Museum, including an emphasis on fund development, grants, and stewardship, under the direction of the Board of Directors. The Director represents the Museum in the community, manages the annual budget, and is responsible for any curation of museum exhibits. In addition, the Director supervises and reviews the Program Manager and Volunteer and Visitor Services Coordinator.

Job Duties:

  • Strategic leadership for JCCM and staff.
  • Developing and implementing approved fund development plans to support the Museum's mission and programs and meet budgeted goals.
  • Represent and promote the Museum widely in the community.
  • Develop donor cultivation and stewardship plans, outreach and cultivation of corporate and foundation relations/sponsorships, and fundraising appeals.
  • Identify grant opportunities and work to develop and administer grants to support the operations of the Museum.
  • Work in partnership with the Board and staff toward the Museum's strategic plan and longstanding sustainability of the Cabin.
  • Attend meetings of the Board of Directors, including committee meetings as needed. Includes preparing documents and reports for review.
  • Foster collaborative relationships to further the mission of the Cabin.
  • Manage Museum annual budget, process invoices, payroll, and perform bookkeeping functions.
  • Maintain Museum general computer systems and databases (currently PastPerfect).
  • Responsible for creation of marketing and promotional materials including newsletters, website, social media, press releases, and more.
  • Assist with Board member recruitment and cultivation.
  • Oversee building security, visitor safety and facilities.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Required Qualifications:

    • Three years management level experience in relevant museum, youth enrichment, and/or non-profit work.
    • Successful grant writing and fundraising experience.
    • Experience in strategic planning and plan management.
    • Experience in fundraising, stewardship, Board relationships and budgeting.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Strong communication and writing skills, including public speaking and the power of storytelling.
    • Passion for the value of history and sharing it.
    • Commitment to creating and promoting a diverse and inclusive environment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of child and youth enrichment in a non-traditional education setting.
    • Knowledge of Pacific Northwest history and the subject matter dealt with by the museum.
    • Understanding of curatorial and conservation matters.
    • Experience with computer software, website updates and maintenance, database programs and email tools for communication and marketing (ideally QuickBooks online, Adobe, MailChimp, and Past Perfect).

    Compensation:

    This is a part-time position (25 hours per week). Salary range is $30-$33 per hour.

    One week paid vacation after six months of employment, five paid holidays, sick leave, hybrid workplace.

    No medical or retirement package is available.

    Flexible scheduling, includes some weekends and evenings.
