Position Description Mail Clerk Anticipated Salary Range: $33,000 - $37,000 Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience The State Corporation Commission (SCC) seeks a responsible and organized individual to join the Office of the Clerk (CLK) as a Mail Clerk. The Office of the Clerk is the official custodian of the judicial and administrative records of the SCC and the central filing office in Virginia for business entities. The Mail Clerk will join the Mail Services team to effectively sort, review, process, and deliver all mail coming in and out of the SCC. The schedule for this full-time position is in office from 8:15am - 5:00pm Monday-Friday. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Open, sort, review, and deliver mail daily to appropriate division and staff located on 11 floors of the SCC's Tyler Building and to one satellite location 2 blocks from the Tyler Building
  • Operate scales, postage meters, letter openers, mailing equipment, and paper shredders daily
  • Operate mail processing equipment
  • Record and process all outgoing mail daily Receive, review the condition of, log, and deliver supplies to divisions and staff according to internal procedures
  • Must possess a valid driver's license to pick up and deliver mail to local post office daily
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work in office 40 hours per week
Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to operate modern mail processing equipment
  • Knowledge of mail and distribution systems
  • Knowledge in the use of a personal computer and its applications
  • Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, including lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to follow procedures for overall effectiveness of mail distribution
  • Ability to express ideas clearly, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to think critically and strategically
  • A bility to establish effective working relationships with SCC staff and provide superior customer service to the public
