Position Overview:
The primary focus of the position of Judicial Assistant is to successfully perform a variety of administrative, technical, and case-related duties. The Judicial Assistant is responsible for the effective administration and operation of the judge's chambers. This requires the ability to work with the judge, the law clerks, interns, externs, and court staff to manage the flow of information and files in accordance with court procedures and policies as supplemented by the judge. Highest ethical standards and consummate professionalism are expected at all times.
Location: N.W. , Washington, DC
Work Schedule: Onsite; Monday- Friday 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and manage the judge's calendar, electronic and paper files, and computer forms.
- Assist the judge in fulfilling committee and court-related responsibilities.
- Ensure office supplies and equipment are stocked and functional.
- Conduct research for presentations, speeches, and committee work.
- Assist in case preparation and provide administrative support in court proceedings.
- Perform receptionist duties, including greeting visitors and answering calls.
- Support the preservation of the judge's personal and court papers.
- Education Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Political Science, Business Administration) preferred, or equivalent experience in a judicial or legal environment.
- Qualifications Requirements: Proven experience in administrative support as a judicial/legal assistant, in a court or legal environment.
- Strong time-management skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to work with case-related computer programs and handle confidential documents.
- High attention to detail with excellent grammar, spelling, and proofreading skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and Windows 10.
- Familiarity with Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently with minimal supervision.
- A positive attitude and mature judgment, with the ability to handle multiple priorities under pressure.
- Background Requirements: Must be a U.S. citizen or otherwise eligible to work in the United States
- Must pass a comprehensive background investigation that could include fingerprinting
