MHS offers students a variety of opportunities, including numerous athletic programs that utilize state-of-the-art facilities led by a passionate coaching staff. Our athletic offerings begin in Elementary and Middle School and peak at the High School Varsity level, contributing to an impressive history of success, including Mid Penn Conference, PIAA District III, and PIAA State Championships. Many MHS athletes also progress to compete at the collegiate level.

We are currently seeking a Junior Varsity Field Hockey Assistant Coach for a one-year ancillary position at the High School level. This role will assist the head coach in organizing and administering the girls' field hockey program year-round, focusing on athletic development, competitive spirit, and character building to help our student-athletes excel both in their sport and in life. Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and overseeing all aspects of the field hockey program.
  • Ensuring the program promotes competitiveness and character development.
  • Recruiting students and collaborating with primary and middle schools to cultivate talent pipelines.
  • Establishing year-round strategies for training and skill enhancement.
  • Creating skill enrichment programs and opportunities.
  • Leading all practice sessions and coaching at games and events.
  • Providing exceptional personal coaching and leadership for players.
  • Recruiting and maintaining support staff for the coaching team.
  • Offering off-season training and workout opportunities for ongoing development.
  • Implementing innovative strategies that address the unique circumstances of MHS's programs.

Pre-season activities commence in August and conclude in October, with practices held Monday through Friday from 3 pm - 6 pm, in addition to some Saturday games. Off-season work is flexible and essential for this position.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of successful coaching experience with a proven track record of building a competitive program while fostering character.
  • Current knowledge of the sport's techniques, rules, regulations, and training theories.
  • Ability to lead and inspire a diverse group of youth; experience with low-income students is a plus.
  • Outstanding organizational and planning skills.
  • A passion for developing talent and building the program year-round.
  • Exemplary integrity; all MHS staff serve as role models for our students.
