Job DescriptionSalary: $20.64/hourJuvenile Probation Officer I Aftercare Probation OfficerDauphin County Probation Services - Juvenile Division is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Probation OfficerI. An employee in this position performs but is not limited to carrying out the following essential functions: Develop a written Family Service Plan within 30 days of a juvenile's placement. Participate in ISPT meetings to assist in the development of the juvenile treatment plan. Meet face-to-face with the juvenile at least one time per month at the court committed placement facility for the purpose of developing a working relationship, monitoring progress and develop aftercare plans. Maintain personal contact with the juvenile while participating in an approved home pass to ensure compliance with the home pass conditions. Maintain monthly contact with the juvenile's caregiver(s) for counseling and information sharing while the juvenile is in placement. Schedule Placement Review Hearings within the established time frames and prepare written reports for the hearings. Prepare comprehensive placement discharge plan with input from caregiver(s), juvenile and placement staff. Including appropriate referrals to community-based programs such as EM, Alphabet Programs, ANRC, DWAP, etc. Complete and participate in the school re-enrollment process according to established protocol. Make appropriate referrals and participates in Family Group Conferences. Enter and update all appropriate information in JCMS. Performs on-call duty according to established protocol. Prepare, attend and testify at Placement Review Hearings according to established protocol, and make appropriate recommendations to the court concerning continued placement. Complete tasks required whenever a new juvenile allegation is received in the office for an active juvenile. Complete all necessary paperwork such as the weekly caseload count, monthly paperwork, flex forms, referrals for community service, court orders and any other relevant paperwork. Maintain collateral contact with outside providers such as counseling agencies, community based agencies, mentors, mental health workers, employers, and others who interact with the juvenile. Prepare, attend and testify at court and detention hearings according to established protocol, and make appropriate recommendations to the court. Administer the Youth Level of Service Assessment tool according to established protocol. Develop, review and update the Juvenile Court Supervision Plan according to established protocol. Develop a payment plan to ensure all restitution, fines and costs are collected in a timely manner. Refer appropriate juveniles to the proper social service agency. Complete routing memos and business office forms for all juveniles who are placed out of home or are referred to a purchased service program. Consult with the Aftercare supervisor for all failure to adjust from placement and detention requests. Participate in monthly case reviews and devise a plan to follow and implement supervisory directives. Prepare for and participate in regular monthly developmental strategies. Safely perform arrests and transports of juveniles. Participate in scheduled staff meetings and unit meetings. Participate in appropriate training workshops and seminars. Prepare all appropriate court orders and cover memos. Complete all fieldwork as necessary and according to policy, including community service. Drug test juveniles when warranted and according to policy as well as enter drug testing results in JCMS. Perform other duties as directed by the Juvenile Court Judge, the director and supervisory staff.OTHER DUTIES OF JOB 1. Must complete a minimum of 8 hours of non-traditional field work per month.2. Is expected to complete 16 hours of community service projects throughout the year. 3. Must check their emails and phone messages daily and respond to any emails/messages within a minimum of 24 business hours. 4. Must participate in office duty rotation schedule. PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS 1. Must be able to complete Phase I (classroom) Safety Training. 2. Must be able to complete Phase II (physical) Control Tactics Training. 3. Must be able to complete and maintain Act 158 Firearms Certification, stress fire, night shoot and continuing education training. 4. Must be able to cope with physical, emotional, and mental stress of the position. 5. Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on work. 6. Must be able to mentally react quickly to disturbances or physical outbreaks. 7. Must be able to sit, walk, bend, twisting, carry and lift out all duties of the position.QUALIFICATIONSA. EDUCATION/TRAINING Bachelor's degree in social or behavioral sciences, criminal justice, law enforcement or related field.B. WORK EXPERIENCEExperience in a related field and/or internship.
