PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Responsibility of the set up and operation of the machine to insure that quality products are achieved at a consistent rate of speed in accordance with machine standards. SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY:
- At the beginning of shift, check previous shift's run to determine status of run
- Reviews job ticket instructions to determine printing specifications, machine set up procedures, and supplies needed
- Follows all instructions on the job ticket advising the supervisor of any incorrect or non-recorded information necessary for proper set up and operation
- Set up machine adjusting and setting controls using proper attachments in consistent manner; start equipment and adjust machine as required to attain run speed
- Responsible for the quality of product manufactured in regard to correct viscosity, color, shading, and contrast, straining, and quality of ink used
- Inspects the printed board to verify accuracy and clarity of printing
- Analyze and correct problems as they occur, using all of the enhanced tools available contacting the shift supervisor for assistance when necessary
- Must be able to read and understand instructions on job ticket and record information on production reports
- Document all non-conforming product and report non-conformance to supervisor, keeps accurate production logs of productivity, maintenance, and down time
- Monitor the printing process from the control panel making any adjustments as necessary
- Must use hand held Densitometer and Densitronic S 2000 to help with quality in holding color (Running to the numbers)
- Must possess ability to train Press Feeder positions and mentor new Team members in job requirements and safety procedures
- Must possess professional appearance and mannerisms with the ability to positively interact and represent the company to customers during press checks
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and assists in repair of machine malfunctions; performs routine cleaning and maintenance
- Clean inkwells at the end of each job
- Pull printed loads out of press, checking top sheet on all loads for correct color and print quality
- Ability to perform the first press operator's position in their absence
- In accordance with our 5S system, maintain a clean work environment including the machine, floors, desks, and fans
- Effectively utilize any machine downtime (not including approved breaks) by assisting with set-up or performing other tasks associated with maintaining a clean work environment
- Occasionally will be asked to perform a different job, or be temporarily placed in a different department based on production needs
AUTHORITY: In the absence of the First Press Operator, the Second Press Operator must have the ability to lead a crew that has been placed with them to execute the demands of the printing operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from his/her supervisor and other written instructions. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Experience operating a large format press desired, preferably in a folding carton environment. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
