SOUTHERN OREGON VETERINARY SPECIALTY CENTER is looking to add a Kennel Assistant to our team! Do you have a passion for animals, and aspire to work within the field of veterinary medicine? As a Kennel Assistant with SOVSC you will be supporting our clinical team by maintaining cleanliness and appropriate stock levels throughout the hospital. What you will do:

  • Perform daily cleaning of kennels, cages, pet walk areas and public areas, following proper disease control, removing trash, surface cleaning, sweeping, mopping, etc.
  • Understand protocol to ensure a clean, sanitary or sterile environment
  • Keep Shift Lead Technician informed of observed animal behavior, health or concerns
  • Stock all kennel/cleaning supplies as needed
  • Stock areas and spot-clean kennels and public areas throughout the day
  • Clean, fold, and stock kennel laundry throughout the hospital
  • Assist with disinfection of dishes, supplies
  • Perform general maintenance of the facility including tasks requiring use of step-ladder and/or ladder
  • Other duties as assigned
Our successful applicants will have:
  • The ability to speak, read and write fluent English
  • The desire to learn basic veterinary medicine concepts and protocols
  • The ability to stand, bend, kneel, walk, reach and move continuously during an 8-12 hour shift
  • The ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs throughout the shift
  • Ability to complete repetitive tasks each week
  • Strong self-starter capabilities and able to self-manage and prioritize tasks on a daily basis
  • The ability to communicate effectively with team members and leadership
  • The desire to learn and grow within the veterinary medicine industry
  • The ability to remain calm during high stress situations.
