Job Description :
A Veterinary Kennel Technician plays a vital role in the day-to-day care and wellbeing of animals at a veterinary clinic or animal hospital. The primary responsibility is to ensure the safety, comfort, and cleanliness of the animals in the kennel or boarding area. Kennel technicians are responsible for feeding, bathing, exercising, and monitoring the health and behavior of pets in their care, while also assisting veterinarians and technicians with routine clinical tasks.Key Responsibilities:
  • Animal Care & Welfare:
    • Feed, water, and monitor animals in the kennel on a regular schedule.
    • Provide basic grooming services, such as bathing, brushing, and nail trimming.
    • Exercise and engage animals in safe, stimulating activities.
    • Observe animals for signs of illness, injury, or distress and report findings to veterinary staff.
    • Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and play areas to maintain a safe, sanitary environment.
    • Administer prescribed medications or treatments under the supervision of veterinary staff.
  • Health Monitoring:
    • Monitor the animals' eating, drinking, and overall behavior.
    • Assist with basic health screenings and provide updates on animal status to veterinarians or technicians.
  • Facility Maintenance:
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for both animals and staff.
    • Ensure all kennel equipment, supplies, and materials are well-stocked and in good working condition.
    • Properly dispose of waste and follow all clinic procedures for handling biological or hazardous materials.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the veterinary team to assist with the handling of animals during procedures or treatments.
    • Help with the preparation and cleanup of exam rooms and treatment areas.
    • Assist in the monitoring and care of hospitalized or post-operative animals.
Qualifications:
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience working with animals in a veterinary, shelter, or kennel setting preferred.
    • Skills & Abilities:
      • Knowledge of animal care and behavior, including basic health and grooming needs.
      • Strong attention to detail and the ability to recognize potential health issues.
      • bility to lift or move animals (may require lifting up to 50 pounds).
      • Ability to handle animals safely and with compassion, especially in stressful situations.
      • Comfort with cleaning and disinfecting animal areas, including dealing with waste materials.
  • Hours:
  • Veterinary Kennel Technicians may be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on the clinic's hours of operation.
