Kids Decor Buyer and CoordinatorTravel: 20% (Stores Nationwide and Trade Shows)Summary:Rooms to Go is seeking a detail-oriented and trend-savvy Kids Decor Buyer and Coordinator to drive product selection, procurement, inventory management, and product lifecycle planning for our Baby, Kids, and Teen decor categories. This role requires a balance of creative trend insight, strong analytical skills, and operational expertise to develop and manage a compelling assortment of products that resonate with parents, grandparents, kids, and teens.The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment, has a deep understanding of procurement and costing strategies, and excels at collaboration across internal teams, suppliers, and retail staff.Responsibilities: Product Selection & Development
- Research and analyze current trends in baby, kids, and teen decor, considering both customer preferences and purchasing behaviors of parents and grandparents.
- Collaborate with design and sourcing teams to develop new decor products aligned with market trends and sales strategies.
- Evaluate vendor offerings, negotiate costs, and assess quality to maintain competitive pricing and product standards.
Procurement & Costing Analysis
- Manage procurement processes, including costing analysis, minimum order quantity (MOQ) constraints, compliance, packing standards, and supplier relationships.
- Optimize purchase agreements to maximize margins while meeting inventory and budget goals.
Inventory Management
- Oversee inventory planning and movement across seven distribution centers (DCs) to ensure optimal stock levels and smooth replenishment.
- Collaborate with logistics teams to minimize lead times and shipping costs.
- Strategically phase out end-of-life products, minimizing leftover inventory while maintaining profit margins.
Store Collaboration & Travel
- Travel (20%) to stores across the U.S. to engage with sales associates, managers, and customers to refine product presentations, assortments, and promotional strategies.
- Train sales teams on new products and gather feedback for continuous improvement in product selection and in-store displays.
Promotions & Trade Shows
- Attend trade shows as necessary to identify new vendors, discover emerging trends, and maintain industry relationships.
- Work closely with marketing teams to develop promotions and campaigns that enhance product visibility and drive customer engagement.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years in retail buying, product development, or merchandising (preferably in baby, kids, or teen categories).
- Proven expertise in procurement, costing analysis, and inventory management.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data, trends, and market insights to make informed decisions.
- Understanding of product lifecycle management, particularly end-of-life strategies and inventory reduction.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and retail management systems.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Creative problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong collaborative mindset with a willingness to travel and engage directly with stores.
Preferred:
- Experience in new product development or sourcing for a national retailer.
- Familiarity with logistics and distribution center operations.
- Insight into the purchasing behaviors of multi-generational families.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Merchandising, or a related field.
