KITCHEN STAFF

Kitchen Staff members are responsible for safely preparing and cooking quality food for summer campers and groups that utilize the facility and for helping to keep a clean and safe kitchen area. Kitchen staff may be hired with a primary duty in mind, but can be assigned a variety of roles within the kitchen functions that can change on a daily basis. The various roles include Lead Cook, Co-Cook (lead prep), Salad Prep (prep 2) and Dishwasher. In addition every position in the YMCA of Greensboro is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character - caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Salary Range: $11.00-$12.00 per hour

Regular Hours: This is a seasonal job May-September. Depending on the assigned daily role on any day of the week, the day shift could run specific hours between 6:00AM and 2:30PM, and the evening shift could run specific hours between 3:00PM and 8:30PM. Nights and weekends frequently required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

* Preparing food, including but not limited to cutting up vegetables and salads.

* Cooking food including operating oven, stove and fryer to cook all foods to required temperatures.

* Cleaning kitchen including but not limited to washing dishes, wiping counters and sinks, mopping floors, cleaning kitchen appliances.

* Serving food to campers and staff with a friendly attitude.

* All kitchen tasks should be done by kitchen procedures that exceed health and American Camp Association regulations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. * Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute ratio, and percent. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

* Specific vision abilities required by this job include depth perception.

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

* CPR/AED, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogen training required upon hire and must remain current throughout employment. ServSafe Certification preferred prior to hire.
