Job Description:
Supports all functions of dairy teaching, research and Extension; provides general assistance in dairy animal care such as milking, feeding, breeding, manure handling, health care, record keeping and general farm work; follows standard operating procedures (SOP), standard management plans (SMP) and compliance with IACUC animal care standards related to the dairy operation; assists with conducting digestion, metabolism, mastitis and other research trials on dairy cows; performs other general activities related to dairy cattle research; preps cattle for trials; collects samples of feed, milk, blood, rumen fluid, and other materials; maintains records; weighs cattle; maintains and cleans facilities and equipment; operates farm equipment and vehicles including tractors, mixer wagon, milking equipment, skid loader, truck and trailer; performs other duties related to dairy teaching and research including cleaning and bedding livestock housing, and assisting veterinarian with herd health treatments; may require variable working hours and weekend work. Position located at Wooster.
Job Duties:
40%: Provides general assistances in dairy animal care such as milking, feeding, breeding, manure handling, health care, record keeping and general farm work. Follows standard operation procedures (SOP's), standard management plans (SMP's) while in compliance with IACUC animal care standards.
40%: Preps cattle for experimental trials, collects milk, feed, excreta and other samples, weighs and records amount of feed, milk and excreta; maintains records and enters data for digestion, metabolism and mastitis trials.
20%: Performs other general duties related to dairy cattle husbandry, including research, teaching and Extension needs.
Minimum qualifications- High School diploma or GED. 0 years of relevant experience required. 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
